The difference between sodium chloride and glucose

Sodium chloride and glucose are two completely different substances. You may rarely hear about sodium chloride in your life, but you should be more familiar with the table salt used in daily life. In fact, table salt is made from sodium chloride. The main function of glucose is to supplement calcium and energy in people's bodies without making the nutritional value insufficient.

Food Industry

It is used for salting in the food industry and fishery industry, and can also be used as a raw material for seasonings and refined table salt. [1]

Adding salt when cooking dishes can remove some of the peculiar smell of the ingredients and increase the flavor. This is the flavor-enhancing effect of salt. “Bland tasteless, salty tasteless” means that the amount of salt should be appropriate to play its unique function. [1]

Medical

Sodium chloride is very important for life on Earth. Most biological tissues contain a variety of salts. The sodium ion concentration in the blood is directly related to the regulation of safe levels of body fluids. The conduction of nerve impulses resulting from signal transduction is also regulated by sodium ions.

Water containing 0.9% sodium chloride is called normal saline because it has the same osmotic pressure as blood plasma. Normal saline is the main fluid substitute and is widely used to treat and prevent dehydration. It is also used for intravenous therapy and prevention of hemovolemic shock.

Humans, unlike other primates, secrete large amounts of sodium chloride through sweat.

Sodium chloride is indispensable to humans. The total amount of sodium ions contained in an adult's body is about 60g, of which 80% is present in the extracellular fluid, that is, in the plasma and intercellular fluid. Chloride ions are also mainly present in the extracellular fluid. The main physiological functions of sodium ions and chloride ions are:

(1) Maintain the osmotic pressure of the extracellular fluid;

(2) Participate in the regulation of acid-base balance in the body;

(3) Chloride ions are involved in the production of gastric acid in the body. In addition, sodium chloride also plays a role in maintaining the normal excitability of nerves and muscles.

Dangers

Hazard Classification: This product does not fall into the category of hazardous goods[7].

Health hazards: Excessive consumption can easily increase blood pressure. It is recommended that middle-aged and elderly people eat as little as possible.

Explosion hazard: not flammable or explosive.

First aid measures

Skin contact: After contact with skin, rinse with clean water.

Ingestion: If consumed in excess, you should drink plenty of water (such as sugar water, salt water) or use other measures (such as injecting normal saline) to maintain the salt level in the body. Otherwise, the consequences will be serious (symptoms of dehydration will appear).

Firefighting measures

Hazardous characteristics: This product is a non-toxic chemical product, non-flammable, and has no special requirements for fire protection[7].

Hazardous combustion products: No hazardous combustion products.

Leakage emergency treatment

Sodium chloride is non-hazardous and can be disposed of directly[7].

Handling and storage

Storage precautions: It should be stored in a cool, dark, ventilated and dry place at room temperature. It can be stacked to prevent rain. It should not be mixed with acids and alkalis. Wooden boards should be laid at the bottom of the stack to prevent moisture. The stack height should not exceed two meters.

Contact Control

Respiratory protection: Just wear a mask.

Eye protection: If sodium chloride crystals come into contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water. [7]
