What to do if you have allergic symptoms when eating shrimp

What to do if you have allergic symptoms when eating shrimp

With the improvement of living standards, many people have begun to pay attention to diet and travel. During festivals, when there are guests at home, or when relatives and friends gather together, everyone likes to eat some seafood. Seafood is not only delicious, but also rich in protein and minerals, which has many benefits to the human body. However, some people are born with symptoms of allergy to shrimp. For example, after eating shrimp, the skin will become itchy, and some people may even experience severe nausea and vomiting. Why do allergies occur after eating shrimp? How should we deal with this situation promptly?

One reason for shrimp allergy symptoms is that shrimp meat is high in protein. Although both are seafood, fish with lower protein content are less likely to cause allergies than shellfish.

To the human body, the protein contained in shrimp is considered foreign protein. Foreign proteins like this are antigens to humans. Like bacteria and viruses, they will be recognized as foreign antigens by the immune system and immediately trigger a series of immune responses.

Some people with sensitive constitutions are particularly sensitive to foreign proteins, and their immune systems often overreact, which is commonly known as allergy. Mild cases can cause urticaria, while severe cases can even lead to shock and death.

Allergic symptoms from eating shrimp can easily cause disease. Excessive histamine in seafood can cause physical discomfort. A small number of people are born lacking the enzyme that breaks down histamine, so eating freshly caught fish or seafood will cause allergies. Allergy is a chronic disease and is related to physical constitution. Many people will have varying degrees of allergic reactions after eating seafood (shrimp, fish, crabs, etc.), most of which manifest as bumps and itching in certain parts of the body (face, legs, arms, or even the whole body).

1. Systemic symptoms: mainly manifested as skin itching, rash, and sometimes low fever.

2. Gastrointestinal symptoms: There may be symptoms of gastrointestinal allergy, such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.

3. Respiratory system symptoms: Some people may develop allergic asthma, which manifests as chest tightness, shortness of breath and extreme difficulty breathing.

4. Other rare symptoms: Bleeding in multiple parts of the body, the most common are subcutaneous hemorrhage, blood in the stool, hematuria, etc. We call it "Henoch-Schönlein purpura".

When symptoms of shrimp allergy appear, oral anti-allergic drugs are recommended at the beginning. After treatment, you will gradually recover, so don't worry. In daily life, try to avoid external irritants and local irritation, do not scratch, rub hard, or wash with hot water or soap. Don't drink alcohol, strong tea or coffee. Do not eat sour, spicy dishes or other irritating foods. During the attack period, avoid eating foods that are likely to cause allergies, such as yellow croaker, shrimp, and seafood.
