Symptoms of castor bean poisoning include : headache, gastroenteritis, fever, leukocytosis, left shift of blood picture, anuria, jaundice, cold sweat, frequent convulsions, cardiovascular collapse: the onset of poisoning symptoms often has a long incubation period. Ricin causes acute poisoning in rats, mainly causing damage to the liver and kidneys and disorders in carbohydrate metabolism. The lectin in castor can agglutinate blood cells.
