What are the methods for identifying rotavirus

Many parents know that rotavirus has a very obvious seasonality, so in spring and autumn, it is important to take measures to prevent rotavirus for babies. At this time, avoid taking babies to crowded places, wash hands frequently, and if you eat raw food, such as raw fruits, you also need to wash them. When your baby shows symptoms such as fever or cough, it is best to take him to the hospital for examination in time.

1. Observe body temperature

Among diarrhea cases, the most common type is diarrhea caused by unclean food that causes bacteria, viruses or toxins produced by bacteria to enter the body. This is called "infectious diarrhea" and accounts for about 85% of diarrhea cases. This type of diarrhea is often accompanied by abnormal body temperature, which manifests as a moderate fever (around 38.5 degrees). The fever symptoms may appear earlier than the diarrhea or at the beginning of the diarrhea. At the same time, children suffering from infectious diarrhea may also show signs of not wanting to play, not wanting to eat, being annoying, crying, and being listless. Parents don't need to be too anxious about this. However, if a child develops a high fever (over 39 degrees) before having diarrhea (or when the diarrhea is rare at the beginning), it should be taken seriously and the child should seek medical attention in time to prevent the serious condition of toxic dysentery.

2. Observe your mental state

That is, observe whether the child with diarrhea shows symptoms such as mental depression, drowsiness, convulsions, seizures, coma, etc. These symptoms are different from the weakness, fatigue, sleepiness and easy awakening that children often experience when they have diarrhea. They are manifestations of mental and consciousness disorders. Another symptom is projectile vomiting, which is when you open your mouth and vomit. It is not vomiting due to nausea or after taking medicine. If you find that your child shows similar mental symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.

3. Observe the characteristics and frequency of stool

Common diarrhea symptoms in young children include loose stools, watery stools, egg-drop soup-like stools, yellow-green stools, or stools with a small amount of mucus. I have diarrhea about 5 times a day, but the stool volume is not large and there is no obvious dehydration. However, if there is blood in the stool, or bloody stool, or bloody stool, and the amount of stool is small each time, and the patient is unwilling to get up from the potty, it may be dysentery, Aspergillus jejuni diarrhea, or hemorrhagic Escherichia coli diarrhea, and you should see a doctor immediately. If a child has frequent diarrhea and has a large stool volume, he will lose a lot of water in the body and is prone to dehydration symptoms. Seek medical attention and receive intravenous fluids promptly to prevent acidosis.

4. Observe for complications

When a child has diarrhea, he or she may experience high fever, headache, projectile vomiting; decreased urine volume with protein in the urine; weakness in the limbs, especially the lower limbs; difficulty breathing; and skin rash and ecchymosis. These symptoms are often early manifestations of complications and should be treated promptly.

5. Observe drug effects and reactions

If the child's diarrhea symptoms are mild, he or she can buy medicine and treat it on his or her own. However, if the self-selected medication has no effect within 2 days, or if adverse drug reactions occur, you should stop taking the medication and seek medical attention immediately. The diet of children with diarrhea should be mainly soft and nutritious meals. Babies who have not been weaned can still be fed with milk; try to drink more water, and it is better to add a small amount of salt to the water. In addition, parents who care for children with diarrhea should wash their hands at all times to prevent the spread of germs.
