What are the standards for grading hypertension?

In daily life, hypertension is a common physical disease for many people. It usually occurs in middle-aged and elderly people. The classification and standards of hypertension are very important. Generally, hypertension needs to be judged by detailed examinations. If it exceeds 130-139, it is not normal hypertension and requires timely treatment.

Standards for grading hypertension

1. The systolic blood pressure of hypertensive patients is 17.3-18.6Kpa (130-139mmHg) and the diastolic blood pressure is 11.3-11.9Kpa (85-89mmHg), which is called the high normal value of hypertension, formerly known as "high normal blood pressure".

2. In 1984, medical scientists first proposed the concept of "high normal blood pressure", and then in 1993 further defined blood pressure below 17.3-11.3Kpa (130-85mmHg) as normal blood pressure. Therefore, when the systolic blood pressure is 17.3-18.6Kpa (130-139mmHg), the diastolic blood pressure is 1.3-11.9Kpa (85-89mmHg), or as long as one of the two reaches this level, it is "high normal blood pressure", which is the current "normal high value" of blood pressure.

3. The diagnostic criteria for hypertension are systolic blood pressure ≥18.7Kpa (140mmHg) and diastolic blood pressure ≥12.0Kpa (90mmHg). This means that the "normal high value" of blood pressure has not yet reached the diagnostic criteria for hypertension, so it is not hypertension. In this case, if there is no target organ damage and no risk factors, there is no need for treatment.

4. But the truth is not that simple. First of all, "high normal" blood pressure has important clinical significance. The possibility of "high normal" developing into hypertension is much greater than that of people with normal blood pressure. Secondly, people in the "normal blood pressure group" or the ideal blood pressure group should be treated with non-drug therapies, including overcoming bad living habits, such as alcoholism, smoking, eating greasy or salty foods, etc.; actively participating in physical exercise under the guidance of a doctor; regularly going to hospitals and community clinics to measure blood pressure and keep records, and contacting doctors regularly to seek necessary guidance and help in a timely manner. Never think that "it doesn't matter" or let it develop naturally.

5. Finally, people whose blood pressure is at the "high normal value" and who suffer from diabetes or concurrent heart, brain, or kidney damage should receive antihypertensive drug treatment. They can usually combine it with Xiaojiang Tea, a Chinese medicine formula tea, to lower their blood pressure to normal or ideal levels. Long-acting antihypertensive drugs are preferred to maintain a steady drop in blood pressure for 24 hours, reduce the possibility of target organ damage, reduce complications, and reduce risks.

Since we are not professional medical students, our attention to this aspect is still very limited. However, it is not a bad thing to know some things. In this way, you can also know whether your blood pressure value after the physical examination is healthy, which is still good for you.
