I have small pimples on my hands which are very itchy

Acne on the hands is a very common phenomenon. Generally, there are many reasons for acne on the hands, either it is hand tinea, or it may be a rash, or it may be caused by allergies. If the symptoms are not very serious, you can generally observe first without taking any treatment. You must pay attention to personal hygiene, do not eat spicy and irritating foods, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, it is best not to scratch, and be careful of cross infection.

Ringworm is mainly caused by infections such as Trichophyton rubrum (about 55.6%), tinea barbae (gypsum-like), and Trichophyton (about 22.7%). The disease is mainly transmitted through contact. The important causes of tinea manuum infection include long-term immersion of hands in water, friction injuries, contact with detergents and solvents, etc. Therefore, the incidence of tinea manuum can be quite high in some industries. Most patients are young and middle-aged women, many of whom have a history of wearing rings.

Symptoms of ringworm

(1) Blister type

The rash is deep-seated small blisters, which are scattered or clustered, with a small amount of scales after rupture or absorption. The patient feels obvious itching, which is often followed by secondary infection due to scratching or picking at the blisters with a needle.

(2) Scaly type

It manifests as hyperkeratosis, dryness, roughness, scaling, and a reddish base. It usually occurs in one hand, but can also affect both hands. The itching is perceived to be mild, and cracking and pain often occur in winter.

(3) Erosive type

It often occurs between the fingers. The local epidermis is moist, whitish and infiltrated, and there is severe itching. After the epidermis is broken, a flushed eroded surface is exposed, and the patient will feel itching and burning pain. Secondary infection often occurs due to scratching.

Causes of Ringworm

Bacterial infection

The pathogens of tinea manuum and tinea pedis are basically the same, mainly Trichophyton rubrum, followed by Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Tinea manuum is often transmitted by scratching tinea pedis, body, and cruris.

Environmental factors

Hand trauma is a common cause. This disease occurs all over the world. The incidence rate is related to occupation. Miners, shoemakers and people who have more opportunities for manual work are prone to this disease.

Pathogenesis

Similar to tinea cruris, non-breathable clothing can increase the local temperature and humidity of the skin and interfere with the barrier function of the stratum corneum. After Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes invade the skin, they go through several development stages, including an incubation period, an enlargement period and a degeneration period during the anti-infection process. During the incubation period, they grow in the stratum corneum and the clinical manifestations are mild. Once the infection is established, the growth rate of Trichophyton and Trichophyton mentagrophytes and the rate of epidermal renewal are two key factors for the development of damage. The two must be equal or the former must be greater than the latter, otherwise the number of Trichophyton and Trichophyton mentagrophytes will decrease. The keratinase and other proteolytic enzymes produced by Trichophyton and Trichophyton mentagrophytes are not only related to their colonization and invasion of the skin, but also manifest as skin damage.
