Blurred eyes are related to liver

Blurred eyes is a very common symptom in daily life, and this symptom has a lot to do with our liver. Ancient books say that "the liver opens up to the eyes", so insufficient liver blood can easily cause visual fatigue, and visual fatigue can lead to blurred vision. Knowing the relationship between the two, if people find that they have blurred vision, they need to carefully check their liver health problems and seek timely treatment.

1. The liver opens to the eyes

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the liver stores blood, governs the tendons, and opens up the eyes. To nourish the liver is to nourish the eyes, and to nourish the eyes is to nourish the liver. When the liver qi is unobstructed, the eyes are clear and bright; when the liver is damaged, the eyes are cloudy and the vision is blurred. Among the “five injuries caused by labor” in the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, there is one: “Prolonged staring damages the blood.” The "blood" here refers to liver blood. The liver blood is abundant and the eyes are bright. When the liver blood is consumed excessively, the eyes cannot be nourished, resulting in blurred vision, dry eyes, and other eye fatigue.

2. Insufficient liver blood causes visual fatigue

With the popularity of electronic products such as mobile phones and computers, a phenomenon of "micro-communication" has emerged on the screen. The continuous push of information makes us feel that the world is at our fingertips. Workers are inseparable from their computers at work, and at night they play games, watch TV series, and shop online on their mobile phones until late at night; students use their eyes for long periods of time during class and stay up late at night to finish their homework.

11pm to 1am is the "liver meridian" time, when the liver and gallbladder meridians are most active. Staying up all night will damage the liver and gallbladder and cause vision loss. Traditional Chinese medicine says: When a person lies down, blood returns to the liver, which nourishes the liver and detoxifies. Excessive use of the eyes and insufficient qi and blood often lead to visual fatigue such as blurred vision, eye pain, eye swelling, eye itching, dry eyes, and sore eyes.

3. Visual fatigue causes blurred vision

Visual fatigue is not surprising: it refers to a symptom in which the eyes become tired and unable to work for a long time when reading or working at close range. Most people suffer from this condition because they work for long periods of time in an environment with inappropriate vision. Visual fatigue, like muscle fatigue, is difficult to avoid when the body is overloaded. It is mainly caused by a decrease in the number of blinks, which results in a corresponding decrease in tear secretion, and the flashing screen strongly irritates the eyes. Eye fatigue can also trigger and aggravate existing eye problems.

4. Symptoms of visual fatigue

1. Eye fatigue, dry eyes, foreign body sensation, heavy eyelids, blurred vision, photophobia and tearing, dry eyes, eye pain and eye congestion, etc.;

2. In severe cases, dizziness, mental depression, and inattention may occur. A few patients may experience diplopia, stereoscopic visual dysfunction, increased intraocular pressure, corneal damage, etc.

3. Adolescents may also develop myopia (pseudomyopia and true myopia) or worsen their existing myopia.

5. The relationship between liver and eyes:

Like to close your eyes and rest: It means insufficient Qi and blood, and poor liver function.

Yellowing of the whites of the eyes indicates jaundice caused by liver disease.

Red spots on the eyes: Indicates poor blood circulation.

Sleepy with eyes slightly open: indicates disharmony between the spleen and stomach.

Drooping eyelids: indicates that the patient has cerebrovascular disease, high blood lipids and unstable blood pressure.

Dark circles around the eye sockets indicate insufficient kidney yang energy and a disorder in water metabolism.

6. Identify eye discomfort:

1. Blurred eyes

The vision is blurry and unclear, as if looking at things through a layer of fog.

2. Dry eyes

The so-called "dry eye syndrome" refers to an eye problem in which tiny scars appear on the surface of the eye due to a decrease in tears or decreased lacrimal gland function.

3. Eye pain

Patients with refractive errors may experience eye discomfort such as visual fatigue, eye pain, and inability to read for a long time.
