Is swimming the cause of nasal allergies?

Now that the weather is getting hotter, many swimming enthusiasts have started swimming. However, during the swimming process, you will find that your nose is prone to allergies. This is an abnormal phenomenon. When people's noses are allergic, it may be due to environmental factors in the pool or previous rhinitis. Wash your nose with cold water before swimming, and use professional equipment to protect your nose to prevent water from entering the nose.

Does swimming in a swimming pool really cause allergic rhinitis ?

Expert answer : In the hot summer, swimming is an excellent fitness exercise and leisurely way. It can enhance physical fitness, relax the body and mind, and does not require sweating. It is suitable for men, women, young and old. Swimming in a swimming pool may induce allergic rhinitis. The problem is not with swimming itself, but with the water quality of the swimming pool. It is hot in the summer and people like to swim to cool off and have fun. In order to prevent diseases from being transmitted through swimming pool water, swimming pool staff often put disinfectants (commonly known as "bleach") into the swimming pool.

The main ingredient of "bleach" is sodium hypochlorite, which is a common allergen. The cleaning ingredients in swimming pools may cause certain irritation to the nasal mucosa. Many patients are prone to allergies to sodium hypochlorite, which can cause allergic diseases such as rhinitis, asthma, and papular urticaria.

In order to prevent the occurrence of allergic rhinitis, people with a history of allergic rhinitis should try to avoid swimming in swimming pools. People with allergic constitutions are advised to swim in natural swimming pools and other environments away from bleach. They can also take appropriate anti-allergic drugs before and after swimming.

When swimming, you should maintain the correct posture to prevent water from entering your nasal cavity; massage the Yingxiang point and Bitong point frequently; and master the correct method of blowing your nose: press one nostril with your fingers, blow outwards with a little force, and the snot in the opposite nostril will be blown out. Use the same method to blow the other side, or put a handkerchief or toilet paper in front of the nostrils, gently support them on both sides of the nose with your hands, and blow the mucus out forcefully. After swimming, you can wash your nose with salt water to help reduce the damage to the nasal mucosa caused by chemicals, thereby reducing the residence of allergens in the nasal cavity.
