What is the function of coral stone?

Coral stone is a stone formed by the skeletons secreted by coral polyps. It is a purely natural decoration. Due to its diverse colors, including pink, red, black and white, it is very popular, so many modern jewelry is made of coral stone. For women, it is an ornament that looks particularly noble and exquisite. So, what are the benefits of wearing coral stone to the human body?

The role of coral stone

Because of the tiny capillary pores, it has a special capillary effect of absorbing moisture and can actively absorb sweat on the skin surface of the body. This feature is a unique quality of coral stone. No other precious stone has this function. The unique capillary effect of coral stone absorbs sweat, cleanses the skin and promotes metabolism.

Second, the mystery of coral color. Distribution of deep-sea red coral: the coast of the western Pacific Ocean, the Mediterranean coast and Hawaii. These are all volcanic and seismic zones. There are frequent underwater volcanic eruptions on the seabed of this zone. There are large amounts of trace elements such as iron and magnesium in volcanic ash. The coral polyps in this area absorb a certain proportion of trivalent iron (red) and divalent magnesium (white) during the fossilization process of turning into coral stone, which turns the coral stone into various colors of red, pink, white and even various shades of white. The color is formed during the fossilization of coral rocks. This is how the colorful coral reefs are created.

The beautiful island of Taiwan is blessed with unique natural advantages. It accounts for 80% of the world's reserves of deep-sea red coral. Red coral is also produced in Hainan Island of my country, but it is shallow sea red coral and cannot be used as gemstone raw material.

From the mouth of the Pearl River to the Xisha Islands, the terrain is low and gentle, with an average slope of only 3 degrees per 100 meters. Therefore, there is no deep-sea environment. A platform is formed at a depth of about 50 meters underwater on the east coast of Hainan Island, where a large number of corals grow. Local fishermen collect shallow-sea red corals here, which have a rough surface and an obvious porous structure and cannot be used as gemstone raw materials.

The west coast of Taiwan Island and the Taiwan Strait are both shallow sea environments. The east coast of Taiwan Island is influenced by the Mariana Trench on the east side, and its steep terrain creates a deep-sea environment, which is a good place for the growth and development of deep-sea red corals. All of Taiwan's red corals are produced in this area.

Coral polyps rely on their tentacles to continuously absorb nutrients from seawater. They inhale trace elements such as CO2 and CaO from seawater and synthesize CaCO3 (in the form of calcite minerals) in their bodies. Calcite minerals gradually replace their bed plates and cavities. As they grow and develop, their bodies are completely replaced by CaCO3. This replacement process is called the fossilization process. Since the result is entirely CaCO3, it is also called the calcification process. The calcification process is the process of growth, development and death of coral polyps. It is the process of transformation of living organic matter into inanimate inorganic coral rocks. Only when it turns into coral stone can people sculpt it into beautiful gemstone jewelry.

It is important to remember that not all coral stones can become gemstones. Only coral rocks formed in deep sea environments are real treasures. Because when coral rocks are formed, the vertical pressure and lateral pressure of the water are different at different depths of the sea water, so the density of the coral rocks created is also different. The water pressure is high in deep sea conditions, so the coral rocks formed are hard. The coral rocks in shallow seas are loose, have many obvious holes and a rough surface because the water pressure is low when they are formed. Therefore, only deep-sea coral stones with hard texture can be carved into various exquisite works of art. Even dense and hard deep-sea coral rocks must have porous structural characteristics.
