Why are my hands numb?

Why are my hands numb?

People who often experience numbness and weakness in their hands should be alert. In addition to sports injuries, numbness in the hands is also likely caused by heart disease. At this time, it is not easy for patients to take medicine blindly. It is recommended to go to the hospital for an objective diagnosis and relevant physical examinations, and then take relevant medicines for treatment after the examination.

1. Low sodium and potassium in the blood. The initial symptoms of low sodium and low potassium are weakness in the hands and feet and sensory impairment.

2. Low calcium in the blood. Patients with hypocalcemia will experience weakness and tingling numbness in their hands and feet, and some patients will have involuntary convulsions.

3. You may have injured your arm during exercise and accidentally stimulated the nerves in your upper arm (commonly known as numb tendons), which can easily lead to long-term numbness and weakness in your hand and palm. However, the numbness and weakness usually disappears once the stimulus is gone.

4. It may be referred pain. Referred pain means that a disease in other parts of the body may cause pain or numbness in parts far away from it. The most common referred pain is heart disease, such as angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease, etc. Patients with heart disease often experience numbness and weakness from the shoulders to the forearms, and even to the palms. Moreover, the symptoms cannot be relieved by conventional potassium, sodium and calcium supplements.

Therefore, to rule out the cause of numbness in the hands, the following tests can be performed in sequence: routine blood test, blood biochemistry test, neuropathology test, electrocardiogram and myocardial enzyme spectrum test.
