The effect of chloramphenicol injection water external application

Chloramphenicol injection is not common in our daily life. It is usually chloramphenicol injection. Chloramphenicol injection for external application has the effects of treating typhoid fever, ear-induced brain abscess, severe anaerobic infection, etc. Friends in need can learn more about the relevant knowledge, including its pharmacological effects and indications, so as to better play its efficacy and facilitate our own lives.

1. Pharmacological Action

This product has a broad-spectrum antimicrobial effect in vitro, including aerobic Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, anaerobic bacteria, Rickettsia, spirochetes and Chlamydia.

It has bactericidal effect on the following bacteria: Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis. It only has an antibacterial effect on the following bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus viridans, group B hemolytic Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, Shigella, Bacteroides fragilis and other anaerobic bacteria.

The following bacteria are commonly resistant to chloramphenicol: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp., Enterobacter spp., Serratia marcescens, indole-positive Proteus spp., methicillin-resistant Staphylococci, and Enterococcus spp. This product is an antibacterial agent. Chloramphenicol is fat-soluble and enters bacterial cells by diffusion, and reversibly binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, which blocks the growth of the peptide chain (possibly due to the inhibition of the action of transpeptidase), thereby inhibiting the formation of peptide chains and preventing protein synthesis. This product is a colorless or slightly yellow clear liquid.

2. Indications

1. Typhoid and other Salmonella infections: It is the drug of choice for typhoid and paratyphoid caused by sensitive strains. This product is generally not suitable for gastroenteritis caused by Salmonella infection. It can still be used if the condition is serious and there is a possibility of septicemia.

2. This product can be used as one of the drugs for ampicillin-resistant Haemophilus influenzae type B meningitis, Streptococcus pneumoniae meningitis, Neisseria meningitidis meningitis, and sensitive Gram-negative bacillus meningitis in patients allergic to penicillin.

3. Brain abscess, especially ear-related abscess, is often a mixed infection of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.

4. Severe anaerobic infections, such as those caused by Bacteroides fragilis, are especially suitable for patients whose lesions involve the central nervous system. It can be used in combination with aminoglycoside antibiotics to treat abdominal and pelvic infections to control simultaneous aerobic and anaerobic infections.

5. When there is no other low-toxic antibiotic alternative, it is often used in combination with aminoglycosides to treat various serious infections caused by sensitive bacteria, such as sepsis and lung infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Salmonella and other Gram-negative bacteria.

6. Rickettsial infection: it can be used to treat Q fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, endemic typhus, etc.
