If the corner of your mouth is rotten, apply erythromycin ointment

Sore corners of the mouth is a very common disease in daily life. It can be caused by multiple causes. Erythromycin ointment has many functions and effects. Many people do not know whether erythromycin can be used to treat sore corners of the mouth. In fact, erythromycin has anti-infection effects and can treat inflammation of the corners of the mouth. However, patients need to understand whether they have allergies before using it in order to better exert its effectiveness.

1. Can I apply erythromycin ointment if the corners of my mouth are sore?

In fact, erythromycin is an antibacterial agent with excellent anti-inflammatory and anti-infection effects and many uses. However, after adding some auxiliary materials such as vaseline and liquid paraffin, it is made into an ointment, which has a good effect on moisturizing and protecting the wound surface. Therefore, it has a good effect on chapped corners of the mouth and inflammation. However, some patients report allergic reactions.

2. Other medicinal uses of erythromycin ointment

Skin infections: As an antibiotic ointment, erythromycin ointment is primarily used to treat and prevent skin infections. Erythromycin ointment can be used for purulent skin diseases such as impetigo and infections of ulcer surfaces. It can also be used for infections at the junction of the skin and mucous membranes, such as around the mouth and anus. The general usage is 2 times a day, apply thinly to the affected area.

In addition to anti-infection, erythromycin ointment has the following uses.

Minor trauma: Erythromycin ointment can be used for minor bruises, scratches or other traumas on the body. The general usage is to clean and disinfect the affected area, then apply an appropriate amount of ointment to the affected area, twice a day.

Mild burns: For small burns, you can first rinse the wound with cold water, and then apply a thin layer of erythromycin ointment on the surface.

Mosquito bites: When the mosquito bites are serious, you should clean and disinfect the bitten area in time, apply an appropriate amount of this ointment twice a day for 5-7 consecutive days.

Nosebleeds: Dry weather can make the originally dry nasal mucosa of some people more fragile, so nosebleeds often occur. At this time, you may wish to apply an appropriate amount of erythromycin ointment to the nasal septum, 4-5 times a day. It can disinfect and soften the nasal cavity, moisturize the nasal mucosa, improve the nasal environment, and prevent re-bleeding. Do not apply too much to prevent the ointment from flowing back into the mouth.

Angular cheilitis: Angular cheilitis is mostly caused by infection and is more common in preschool children. For bacterial angular cheilitis, you can apply a small amount of erythromycin ointment and take vitamin B2 at the same time.

It should be noted that there is another dosage form of erythromycin ointment for eye inflammation, called erythromycin eye ointment. They contain different concentrations of erythromycin, with the ointment containing 1% and the eye ointment containing 0.5%.
