What are the differences between latex and rubber?

People's lives are full of various gelatinous objects. These objects are made of rubber, and the raw materials are natural and pollution-free substances. With the improvement of people's technical level, people's utilization of rubber has deepened. Driven by advanced technology, latex has been produced. Its quality is similar to that of rubber, but what are the differences between latex and rubber?

Natural latex: Natural latex is the liquid that flows out when rubber trees are tapped. It is milky white in color. In order to prevent natural latex from coagulating due to the action of microorganisms and enzymes, ammonia and other stabilizers are often added. Because each rubber tree can only produce 30cc of latex juice every day, it takes at least one to one and a half days to complete the production of a latex tube product. It is a very time-consuming product and the materials are precious. The production process requires molding, filling, physical foaming, demolding, repeated water washing to remove impurities, drying and other steps.

Rubber: Rubber is a natural high molecular compound with polyisoprene as the main component. Its molecular formula is (C5H8)n. 91% to 94% of its components are rubber hydrocarbons (polyisoprene), and the rest are non-rubber substances such as proteins, fatty acids, ash, and sugars. It is divided into two types: natural rubber and synthetic rubber. Natural rubber is made by extracting gum from plants such as rubber trees and rubber grass; synthetic rubber is obtained by polymerization reaction of various monomers. Rubber products are widely used in various aspects of industry and life.

The difference between latex and rubber

Rubber is the basic raw material of the rubber industry and is widely used in the manufacture of tires, hoses, tapes, cables and various other rubber products. It is an important material along with metal, chemical fiber and plastic.

Common latex products: pillows, mattresses, gloves, pacifiers, hoses, etc.

Common rubber products: tires, basketballs, table tennis rackets, etc.

The difference between rubber and latex can be seen from the above introduction. From the introduction, the performance characteristics can be seen, and the most important difference is their use. So I hope the above content can help you better understand the difference between latex and rubber.
