The treatment should be aimed at clearing away dampness and heat, and regulating the gastrointestinal tract. The prescription used is Gegenqinlian Decoction with added ingredients.

3. Food stagnation type: mostly caused by overeating. The stool smells like rotten eggs and is often accompanied by abdominal pain, pain relief after diarrhea, belching, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, and abdominal distension that refuses to be pressed. The treatment should be to strengthen the spleen and stomach, digest food and relieve stagnation. The prescription can be modified from Baohe Pills.

4. Spleen deficiency and dampness excess type: often caused by congenital spleen and stomach deficiency, and damaged spleen and stomach due to improper diet. Symptoms include loose stools, poor appetite, abdominal distension, soreness and heaviness in the limbs, sallow face and fatigue. The treatment should be based on the method of strengthening the spleen and eliminating dampness, and the prescription can be modified from Shenling Baizhu San.

5. Spleen and stomach deficiency and cold type: often caused by congenital spleen and stomach deficiency, and acquired excessive consumption of raw and cold food that damages spleen yang. Symptoms include loose stools, dull abdominal pain, severe symptoms when exposed to cold, mild symptoms when exposed to heat, fatigue and shortness of breath, etc. The treatment should be to warm the middle and strengthen the spleen, and the prescription should use Aconite Li Zhongjia.

6. Liver depression and spleen deficiency type: often caused by emotional discomfort, liver depression and qi stagnation that damage the spleen and earth. Symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhea, severe symptoms of anger, and relief of pain after diarrhea, often accompanied by fullness in the chest and flanks, pain and swelling in both flanks, belching, poor appetite, intestinal rumbling and flatulence, and vomiting of acid and water. The treatment should be to soothe the liver and strengthen the spleen, relieve pain and stop diarrhea. The prescription should be the Tongxie Yaofang with added ingredients.

7. Spleen and kidney yang deficiency type: often caused by insufficient congenital endowment and malnutrition. Symptoms include diarrhea in the morning, cold pain in the navel and abdomen, preference for warmth and pressure, often accompanied by chills and cold limbs, soreness of the waist and knees, diarrhea immediately after abdominal pain, and pain stopping after diarrhea. The treatment should be to warm the spleen and kidneys, strengthen the intestines and stop diarrhea. The prescription is Si Shen Wan with added ingredients.

8. Lifting, consolidating and astringing method: Long-term diarrhea often causes the middle qi to sink, resulting in uncontrollable large intestine slippage. Symptoms include persistent diarrhea, occasional rectal prolapse, loss of appetite, fatigue, etc. The prescription is Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang combined with Zhenren Yang Zang Dong plus or minus.
