The human body needs to excrete excess water. When we want to excrete water, we commonly call it urinating and going to the toilet. This is normal. However, some people cannot get up after surgery and will have a urinary catheter inserted. But after removing the urinary ring, they often feel urethral pain. This is a very common phenomenon. It cannot be ruled out that it may be related to infection and needs to be treated as soon as possible. Urethra pain after catheter removal In the human excretory system, the kidneys are where urine is produced, the ureters are like the excretory system, the bladder is like the catchment area upstream of the urinary tract, and the urethra is like the downstream of the urinary tract, which can excrete urine out of the body. However, the length of the female urethra is shorter than that of the male urethra, and it is adjacent to the vagina, so bacteria can easily flow upstream, especially after sexual intercourse. This is why "honeymoon cystitis" is caused. Normally, the entire surface of the human urinary tract is covered with a layer of mucus like a protective film, which can inhibit bacteria from attaching to it and invading the tissue. Because the woman's vagina is close to the intestines and anus, many large intestine bacteria will also enter the vagina and do evil. Therefore, under normal circumstances, the vaginal mucosa will breed many resident bacteria-Lactobacillus, making the vagina acidic to inhibit the invasion of foreign bacteria. When these natural defense functions are congenitally deficient or acquiredly changed, women will be prone to vaginal or urinary tract infections. These changes include: 1. Obstruction of urine excretion: such as tumors or stones blocking the urinary tract; cystocele changes the structure and function of the urinary tract. 2. Changes in vaginal bacteria: caused by the use of contraceptive spermicides, abuse of antibiotics, and hormone deficiency in menopausal women. 3. Destroy the mucus protective layer of the urinary tract: such as urinary tract instrument surgery or catheterization. Why do women experience pain when urinating? When the vagina or urethra is infected and inflamed by bacteria, it will be painful for urine to pass through that area; when you are allergic to soap, toilet paper, lubricants, vaginal douches, contraceptive sponges or foams, urination will also be painful; bladder inflammation or tumors (uterine fibroids, ovarian tumors compressing the bladder, urinary stones can cause painful urination; if you need to receive chemotherapy anti-cancer drugs or pelvic radiation therapy due to cancer, it will also cause bladder inflammation and painful urination). |
