How to preserve green-skinned walnuts for a year?

Walnuts are a common food in our daily life. They have great effects in strengthening the brain and supplementing nutrition. However, green-skinned walnuts are different from dried walnuts, especially in terms of storage methods. Dried walnuts can be stored for a long time without going bad, but green-skinned walnuts are relatively fresh. If they are not stored properly, they will easily become moldy and deteriorate, affecting the eating effect. So what are some good ways to preserve green-skinned walnuts in our daily life?

Storage method:

First of all, try to put it in a ventilated place, do not use sealed bags, it is best to use cloth bags, sacks or other bags with good ventilation.

Secondly, using bags with good ventilation is to prevent the walnuts from being dry enough, so that the bags with good ventilation can effectively and quickly dissipate and absorb moisture and water, thereby better maintaining the dryness of the walnuts and preventing them from getting damp and moldy.

If the quantity of walnuts is not large, storing them in the refrigerator is a good choice. As long as the walnuts are kept dry, it should be no problem to keep them in the refrigerator for a year.

Finally, it is recommended that the walnuts should not be peeled, so that they can be stored longer in the shell.

Nutritional content of walnuts

Walnuts are rich in nutrients, containing protein, carbohydrates, sugars, multiple vitamins, carotene, fat, and essential minerals for the human body such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, copper, magnesium, and potassium. According to measurements, every 100g of walnut kernels contains 15g of protein, 58.6g of fat, 26.2g of carbohydrates, 9.6g of cellulose, 65mg of vitamin E, 57mg of calcium, 329mg of phosphorus, 237mg of potassium, 5mg of vitamin A, 30mg of carotene, 306mg of magnesium, 6.8mg of iron, 250.7mg of sodium, 6.42mg of zinc, as well as thiamine, riboflavin, B vitamins, selenium, iodine, copper, manganese, etc.

How to Shell Walnuts

1. First put the walnuts in a steamer and steam them over high heat for a few minutes, then immediately immerse them in cold water to cool. After taking them out, you will find that there are cracks on the surface of the walnut shell. Just break the shell along these cracks and you can take out the complete walnut kernel.

2. If you want to remove the skin of the walnut kernels, put the walnut kernels in boiling water for a few minutes. Then just twist them lightly with your hands and the skin will fall off easily.

3. When you don’t have any tools, use the “corner of the door” to clamp. Pinch it horizontally and vertically with appropriate force to ensure the walnut is intact.

4. Use walnut cracking pliers to clamp it horizontally and vertically and it will be complete.

5. Use a hammer to knock on the seams on both sides.

6. If the skin is thinner, you can squeeze two walnuts together. One of the weaker ones will definitely break first, but be careful not to cut your hand.

Taboos on eating walnuts

1. Avoid eating in large quantities

Walnuts are high in protein and fat, and eating too much at one time can cause indigestion. It is advisable to eat no more than 4 walnuts a day. At the same time, you should pay attention to reducing the intake of other fats to avoid excessive calories.

2. Patients with internal heat or diarrhea should not eat this product.

Walnuts are warm in nature and high in oil. Eating them will cause internal heat and phlegm. People with yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire, phlegm-heat cough, phlegm-dampness, diarrhea, etc. should not eat walnuts.

Reminder: When eating walnuts, you should insist on taking them in moderation and for a long time, and do not peel off the skin on the surface of the walnut kernel.

How to store dried fruits

Keep in a dry environment.

Dried fruits must be placed in a dry environment to avoid moisture, and a well-ventilated place is generally better. It is better to put it in a sunny room. Wrap it in plastic bags before storing.

The glass bottle is sealed.

The safest way to store dried fruits is to place them in a sealed container. Glass bottles are better than plastic bottles. Glass is stable and will not volatilize harmful substances. The glass bottle must be dry and clean before putting dried fruits in it.

Add some tea leaves to prevent moisture.

If you are worried, you can put some tea leaves when storing dried fruits. Tea leaves can absorb moisture to ensure that the dried fruits will not be affected by moisture. Don't put too much tea, just put some according to the number of dried fruits.

Use desiccant appropriately.

If you store a lot of dried fruits, you should use desiccants appropriately to achieve the best storage effect. However, desiccant should not be eaten, especially out of reach of children to avoid accidental ingestion.

Refrigerator storage.

If the indoor temperature is high in the summer, you can seal the nuts and refrigerate them to minimize contact with air and moisture. Nuts are easily penetrated by odors and should be avoided from being stored together with foods with pungent odors, such as onions, garlic, strongly fragrant fruits, seafood, etc.
