What are the symptoms of patients with advanced esophageal cancer

Esophageal cancer refers to a malignant lesion caused by abnormal proliferation of the squamous epithelium or glandular epithelium of the esophagus. When the tumor infiltrates the esophageal wall, invades the surrounding organs, or has distant metastasis, it is called advanced esophageal cancer. So, what are the symptoms of patients with advanced esophageal cancer?

1. Dysphagia. Dysphagia becomes more severe, and the patient can only take a small amount of liquid food, or even no water at all.

2. Increased pain. Pain occurs when the tumor invades surrounding tissues or metastasizes to bones and gradually increases.

3. Vomiting When the esophageal obstruction is obvious, the food cannot pass through. The esophagus above the lesion expands, and the food is stored in the esophagus and cannot pass through, which causes vomiting.

4. Hoarseness: This occurs when the tumor directly invades or metastasizes to lymph nodes and compresses the recurrent laryngeal nerve.

5. Lung infection: When the tumor penetrates the esophageal wall and invades the trachea or bronchi, the food you eat will enter the trachea or bronchi, causing severe choking and coughing, followed by lung infection.

6. Vomiting blood and black stools When the tumor invades the large blood vessels in the chest cavity, such as the thoracic aorta, sudden massive bleeding and death may occur. A small amount of bleeding may be caused by tumor rupture and bleeding of tumor blood vessels when cancerous tissue falls off. It may manifest as vomiting blood and black stools at the same time.

7. Difficulty in breathing When secondary perforation of the tumor causes lung infection, it is easy to have difficulty in breathing. If the tumor metastasizes to the brain or severe dehydration occurs, unconsciousness or even coma may occur.
