Eyes are becoming more and more sensitive to light

Most people will feel photophobia and discomfort in their eyes when they are under the sun or exposed to strong light. The normal reaction is to squint the eyes or use other items to help block the sunlight to reduce eye discomfort. However, some people also feel uncomfortable under normal light intensity. What is going on? Today I will tell you why your eyes are becoming more and more sensitive to light.

First of all, we should understand which eye or body diseases can cause photophobia, and then treat the cause with the right medicine to improve the photophobia.

Most often

The cause of photophobia is the inflammatory reaction of the front part of the eye, which includes: conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal foreign body, corneal skin breakage, corneal ulcer, iritis and iridocyclitis. This type of inflammatory eye disease should be treated promptly by an ophthalmologist; appropriate treatment will improve the photophobia. In addition, dry eye patients may be more sensitive to external stimuli due to lack of sufficient tear moisture, and their eyes may be afraid of light. Reducing unnecessary stimulation to the eyes and using artificial tears under the doctor's instructions can slightly improve the photophobia.

Some non-inflammatory eye diseases can also cause photophobia, such as albinism, aniridia, and total blindness caused by autologous inheritance. There is currently no medical cure for photophobia caused by this type of disease, so the only treatment is passive. For example, wear sunglasses or hats when going out, and avoid too strong indoor light.

Some systemic diseases can also cause photophobia, such as migraine, trigeminal neuralgia, meningitis, subarachnoid hemorrhage, hyperthyroidism and head trauma. People with congenital glaucoma or lighter irises are less able to block light. The photophobia caused by these diseases can be relieved and improved to a considerable extent after surgery or drug treatment.

Sudden onset of photophobia is actually a warning sign for eye protection. Correct diagnosis and treatment can provide the best care and improvement for eye or body diseases. Therefore, when you have abnormal photophobia, don't ignore it easily. After all, maintaining bright eyes requires your own efforts.
