The difference between Bayu and pufferfish

Bayu and pufferfish are two completely different types of fish. Although they look somewhat similar, most people eat Bayu. When Bayu comes out of water, its belly will swell up due to the influence of air, forming a round ball shape, but it does not contain any toxins. However, pufferfish is poisonous, so the meat of pufferfish will be more delicious, but the toxin content is also very high.

Ba fish is found in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta regions. For example, the Ba fish produced in Panyu, Guangzhou, Jinxi, Kunshan, and Zhouzhuang areas is a type of puffer fish, usually an immature form of the dark-spotted pufferfish, and is generally considered non-toxic. As soon as it comes out of the water, its belly swells up like a ball, which is very interesting.

Puffer fish, commonly known as "bubble fish", "blowing belly fish", "puffer fish", "good clam fish", "air-blown fish" (Jiangsu and Zhejiang), "good fish" (Guangdong), "chicken bubble" (Guangdong), "turtle fish" (Guangxi), "street fish" (pronounced in Minnan dialect) (Fujian), "wax head" (Hebei), and "boat mackerel".

It was called "lungfish" in ancient times. Generally refers to fish belonging to the families Dicynodontidae, Tricynodontidae, Tetracynodontidae and Boxfishidae in the order Tetracynomorpha.

Pufferfish are warm temperate and tropical near-shore bottom fish that live in the middle and lower layers of the ocean. A few species enter freshwater rivers. When encountering an external enemy, the air sac in the abdominal cavity expands rapidly, causing the entire body to float to the surface in a spherical shape. At the same time, the small spines on the skin stand up for self-defense.

Poisoning Treatment Introduction: Tetrodotoxin poisoning is an emergency caused by poisoning after eating puffer fish. Puffer fish, also known as dull fish, bubble fish, and Spanish mackerel, is produced in coastal areas of China. There are many species and the meat is delicious, but some of its organs and tissues contain toxins. The toxicity is stable and cannot be destroyed by frying, boiling, salting, and sun drying. Pufferfish toxin has a toxic effect similar to curare, which mainly paralyzes nerve centers and nerve endings: first the sensory nerves are paralyzed, then the motor nerves are paralyzed, and finally the respiratory center and vascular nerve center are paralyzed, resulting in sensory impairment, paralysis, respiratory failure, etc. If not actively treated, it can often lead to death.

If someone is poisoned by eating puffer fish, they can still be rescued if it is discovered in time. After eating, if you find symptoms of puffer fish poisoning, you should go to the hospital immediately for emergency treatment. Baking soda solution can be injected subcutaneously or intravenously to quickly detoxify. Epinephrine, digitalis, camphor, caffeine, etc. can also be injected separately, and the effect is also relatively ideal. There are many detoxification methods popular among the Chinese people, such as: eating raw eggplant, taking cuttlefish ink orally; drinking the juice of sheep's foot leaves; decocting and taking ivy; decocting and taking amaranth (the whole plant), etc.

Clinical manifestations 1. Gastrointestinal symptoms: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or diarrhea soon after eating;

2. Symptoms of nerve paralysis: numbness of lips, tongue tip, and fingertips at first; followed by numbness of the whole body, drooping eyelids, weakness of limbs, unsteady walking, ataxia, muscle paralysis, and loss of tendon reflexes;

3. Symptoms of respiratory and regurgitation failure: difficulty breathing, rapid breathing, shallow and irregular cyanosis, decreased blood pressure, pupil constriction followed by dilation or asymmetry of the pupils, speech disorders, coma, and finally death from respiratory and regurgitation failure.
