What can gastroradiography detect?

Gastrointestinal radiography is mainly used to examine gastritis or gastric hypomotility. Gastrointestinal radiography can show the morphology of the gastrointestinal tract very clearly. This examination is relatively safe, non-traumatic and has no side effects, so it has been widely promoted and used. Many stomach diseases are diagnosed through gastroscopy. Let’s learn in detail what gastroscopy can detect.

First, what to check

Gastrostomy can detect gastritis or gastric hypomotility.

2. Indications

1. Gastrointestinal barium contrast examination Gastrointestinal contrast examination can show its inner cavity and mucosal folds, morphology and function, etc., and has important diagnostic value for common gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcers and cancers. Gastrointestinal radiography is the primary and main method for the examination of gastrointestinal tumors. The location and morphological changes of the gastrointestinal tract can also be used to make a localized diagnosis of intra-abdominal masses. It can determine the scope and degree of infiltration of gastrointestinal cancer, estimate the possibility of surgical resection, and also serve as a follow-up observation of the therapeutic effect during the treatment of gastrointestinal lesions.

2. Drug-assisted contrast examination uses certain drugs to change the function of the gastrointestinal tract or eliminate certain functional abnormalities to achieve the purpose of detailed display of lesions, reduce gastrointestinal tension, and facilitate the display of the fine structure and tiny lesions of the gastrointestinal mucosal surface; it is used to eliminate gastrointestinal spasm and enable certain abnormalities such as ulcer niches to be displayed; it helps to distinguish whether the stenosis is spasmodic or organic.

3. Gastrointestinal angiography has diagnostic value for diagnosing gastrointestinal vascular lesions, tumor infiltration, etc.

3. Taboo

Gastrointestinal perforation, massive bleeding and intestinal obstruction, etc.

4. Preparation

The patient should fast after dinner the day before the barium meal examination and go to the radiology department for examination on an empty stomach the next morning. If you do not fast, the gastric contents may affect the observation of gastrointestinal morphology; taking certain medications may affect gastrointestinal function. Patients with pyloric obstruction should first undergo gastric lavage and empty the gastric contents before examination.

5. Notes

1. Combination of fluoroscopy and photography. Fluoroscopy can observe gastrointestinal images from all angles. In addition to recording fluoroscopy findings, photography is more conducive to the display of minor lesions.

2. Morphology and function are equally important. Morphological changes are the main basis for diagnosis, but functional changes have certain reference significance;

3. The use of palpation, massage and pressure can cause different filling states of the gastrointestinal tract, and the gastrointestinal tract wall can be felt to be soft or stiff, whether there are lumps, tenderness and mobility.
