Tips on preventing tuberculosis

I believe that everyone has been taught some basic knowledge on how to prevent tuberculosis when they were young. Because tuberculosis is highly contagious, parents and school teachers are more serious about their children’s education, for fear that the knowledge they teach their children is not comprehensive enough, which may lead to the children coming into contact with people with tuberculosis and being infected. So what are some basic knowledge on how to prevent tuberculosis? The following is a detailed introduction

Tuberculosis is a chronic disease that requires continuous medication for several months or even years before the disease can be controlled, improved, or cured. Therefore, you should take taking medicine as seriously as eating every day. If you accidentally forget to take the medicine, you must take it in time. How to prevent tuberculosis? The prevention of tuberculosis mainly involves controlling the source of infection, cutting off the transmission route, and protecting people who are susceptible to infection. For patients whose sputum contains tuberculosis bacteria, they should be isolated and treated properly. Pulmonary tuberculosis is mainly transmitted through respiratory tract infection. When patients with pulmonary tuberculosis go out, it is best to wear a mask to prevent the tuberculosis bacteria from spreading to normal people through the respiratory tract.

1. Early detection and treatment of the source of infection

A sputum-positive pulmonary tuberculosis patient can infect 15 healthy people. The infection mainly occurs before the person is discovered and treated, because no preventive measures are taken before the source of infection is discovered, and the person is in close contact with family members, colleagues, classmates, etc., and the contacts are easily infected with tuberculosis bacteria. Therefore, the first thing to do is to discover the source of infection hidden in the crowd as early as possible and give it thorough treatment in order to shorten the infectious period of the source of infection. Early detection leads to early treatment, and there are many drugs to choose from, low treatment costs, small adverse reactions, high safety, and easy tolerance by patients. Treatment can proceed smoothly and the possibility of cure is high, thereby reducing the failure rate of treatment and the spread of tuberculosis in society. Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis often have symptoms of chronic cough, sputum and hemoptysis. Some patients also have symptoms such as fever, chest pain, night sweats, fatigue, etc. Therefore, anyone who has cough and sputum for 2-3 weeks or related symptoms should seek medical attention in time. If diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis, formal treatment is required and the prescribed course of treatment is completed.

2. Prevent the spread of tuberculosis

1. Reduce the spread of tuberculosis: Strengthen health education to make everyone understand the harm and transmission methods of tuberculosis, and develop good hygiene habits such as not spitting; the sputum of tuberculosis patients should be burned or disinfected with drugs; patients should wear masks in public places, cover their mouths with handkerchiefs when coughing or sneezing, and do not speak loudly to others.

2. Reduce the concentration of tuberculosis bacteria in the environment: In poorly ventilated and closed environments, such as families in winter and crowded collective living groups, tuberculosis bacteria are easily spread. It is necessary to open windows for ventilation regularly, and sunlight exposure is also important.

3. Reduce contact with sources of infection: Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis should avoid going to crowded places or working where there is frequent contact with people. If tuberculosis is found in a family member, in addition to active treatment and ventilation, it is best for the family to let the patient live in a separate room if conditions permit, or sleep in separate beds if conditions do not permit.
