I can't open my mouth and it hurts on one side

I don’t know why, but many people have experienced being unable to open their mouths. Once I open my mouth wider, I feel pain on one side of my cheek. In fact, in this case, there may be some problems with the bite joint. When it comes to occlusal joint diseases, the biggest impact on patients is daily diet, because our mouths cannot be opened, or once the mouth is chewed, the occlusal joints will be painful.

Touch your chin with your hand, then open and close your mouth. During this process, you will find that there is a place that moves. This is the occlusal joint. Just like the joint of gears, if it is rusted, it will not turn flexibly. Occlusal arthritis is similar to this principle, but it is not caused by rust, but by inflammation.

Treatment principles: Since the cause and pathogenesis of this disease are not yet fully understood, there is still a lack of a radical cure.

1. Eliminate all adverse mental and psychological factors, such as improving symptoms of neurasthenia, pointing out a good prognosis, enhancing confidence, and using sedatives and sleeping pills appropriately.

2. Avoid opening your mouth too wide, such as yawning, which may cause joint sprains. laughing out loud. After being stimulated by cold, avoid sudden chewing movements to avoid muscle spasms. Injury to joint ligaments. Correct bad chewing habits, such as unilateral chewing and nighttime clenching of teeth.

3. Eliminate harmful stimuli, such as treating periodontitis, removing impacted wisdom teeth, repairing missing teeth, correcting malocclusion, etc. Change the unilateral chewing habit, avoid eating hard food, treat nocturnal bruxism, etc.

4. Mouth opening exercises should be performed daily. Apply hot compress for 20 minutes before training. Open and close your mouth each time for 5 minutes. Repeat 3 to 5 times a day.

5. Oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: can relieve or control pain symptoms, but should be taken as directed by a doctor. The doctor will fully assess the risks. Remember not to adjust the dosage and medication cycle on your own.

6. Glucosamine sulfate: Although there is currently no drug that can definitely inhibit or repair the degeneration of joint tissue and articular cartilage, there is evidence suggesting that glucosamine sulfate may be a drug that can simultaneously improve osteoarthritis symptoms and joint structure.

7. Joint cavity lavage treatment.

8. Intra-articular injection of corticosteroids.

9.Surgical treatment is usually not recommended.
