Nail nevus removal surgery

Nail nevus removal surgery

The nail matrix nevus is darker in color than ordinary moles and usually has a lot of melanin deposition. If the nail matrix nevus does not affect your life and is not particularly large, you can consider not seeking treatment. But some people think it affects their appearance, so they go for surgery to remove it. Be careful that the nail matrix nevus may develop other lesions. If other complications occur, you need to be especially careful. The surgery needs to be done very carefully, otherwise there may be other infections.

There is no need to rush to deal with it now. Just pay attention to observe the changes. If conditions permit, you can go to Xijing Hospital for surgery. The things removed during the operation are generally sent to the hospital for collection.

The lighter color is nail band pigmentation, which is familial and does not require treatment. If the color is dark and tends to widen, it should be surgically removed.

First of all, pay attention to the "black moles" on your body, especially congenital moles. If a mole grows significantly larger after puberty, or raised papules appear on flat black spots, or the mole is painful or uncomfortable, or the pigmentation darkens significantly, or a red halo appears around the mole, these may be signs of malignant transformation of the mole.

Secondly, pay attention to the black line on the nail, which is called the nail mother nevus. Among the cases we counted, 46 cases of melanoma occurred under the nail, of which 9 cases started as a black line on the nail, and after several years the black line widened to form melanoma.

Third, pay attention to new dark spots, especially those on the soles of the feet. Dark spots on the soles of the feet are harmless and painless, but in fact they are often the most dangerous "terrorists". In addition, new moles rarely appear after the age of 30. If a new mole occurs and is larger than 0.5 cm, you should pay special attention and be sure to go to a large hospital to see an experienced dermatologist for diagnosis to rule out melanoma. However, the "black moles" that appear on some people are actually seborrheic keratosis (commonly known as senile warts), not real black moles.

In short, as long as we are vigilant, malignant melanoma of the skin can be completely eliminated in its infancy and avoid serious consequences. The rate of malignant transformation of moles is actually very low, so there is generally no need to worry too much. If a mole needs to be removed for various reasons, it should be surgically removed and a pathological examination should be performed. Do not use treatments such as freezing, laser, or drug corrosion.

The reasons are:

① Surgical excision has a quick recovery, leaves no scars, and has a good cosmetic effect; whereas laser, freezing, etc. cause severe damage to the surrounding normal skin, have a slow recovery, and often leave scars.

② Treatments such as freezing, laser, and drug corrosion are often not thorough, and the nevus cells that are not completely removed may become malignant due to stimulation.

③ After surgical resection, a pathological examination can be performed to confirm the diagnosis. If any problems are found, they can be remedied in time. However, freezing, laser, drug corrosion, etc. cannot achieve this goal.

④ Early melanoma (malignant) looks like a "black mole" to the naked eye. After surgical removal and pathological examination, a clear diagnosis can be made and remedial measures can be taken.

Some moles, such as Nevus of Ota (bluish-brown spots around the eyes) and Nevus of Ito, rarely become malignant. Modern Q-switched lasers can completely cure them without damaging normal skin. This is one of the most important advances in modern laser medicine.

In addition, some black spots of 2 to 3 mm in size are common on the face and various parts of the body, which are generally called "black moles". The correct name is sunspots. Such black spots can be completely removed by laser, drug corrosion, etc. without any worries.
