How to maintain sheepskin leather clothing

How to maintain sheepskin leather clothing

Leather jackets made of sheepskin are very soft and comfortable to wear. More importantly, sheepskin jackets are warmer than other leather jackets. Therefore, many people prefer sheepskin leather jackets when choosing leather jackets. Sheepskin leather jackets have many advantages, but they also have some headaches. A typical one is maintenance. The difference in the number of years a jacket can be worn is huge if it is well maintained or poorly maintained. So, how to maintain sheepskin leather clothing? Let’s take a look below.

1. Since the main component of sheepskin is protein, it is susceptible to moisture, mildew and insects. For this reason, when wearing leather clothing, avoid contact with oily, acidic, and alkaline substances.

2. It is best to wear leather clothing frequently and wipe it frequently with a fine velvet cloth. If it gets wet due to rain or becomes moldy, you can wipe off the water stains or mildew spots with a soft dry cloth. Then wipe evenly with a little leather oil (not suitable for polished leather). Before wiping, try wiping on a less obvious part of the leather jacket. If oil penetration or discoloration occurs and the original color cannot be restored, stop using it immediately. After wiping, hang it on a hanger in a cool and ventilated place for about 24 hours, then wipe the surface of the leather jacket with a clean cloth. Just wipe off the remaining leather oil. But never rub it with water or gasoline, because water can harden the leather and gasoline can cause the oil in the leather to evaporate and cause it to crack.

3. When leather clothing is wrinkled, you can use a non-steam iron (do not use a steam iron) and the temperature should be between 60-70 degrees. Place a piece of silk or cotton lining on the leather jacket and gently iron the wrinkles back and forth over medium-low heat, moving the iron constantly. Do not allow the iron to come into direct contact with the leather surface.

4. If leather clothing loses its luster, you can use leather polish to polish it. However, the polished leather and the dyed glossy leather should not be oiled or rubbed. Spray paint. Never wipe it with shoe polish. In fact, it is not difficult to polish leather. Just dip a cloth in polish and gently rub it on the leather once or twice. Generally, polishing it every two or three years is enough to keep the leather soft and shiny and extend its service life.

5. If leather clothing is torn or damaged, it should be repaired in time. If it is a small crack, you can apply some egg white on the crack and the crack will be glued together. Prevent leather clothes from being stained with oil, etc. Dust on glossy leather. Oil stains can be promptly removed with a dry rag or brush; for fleece and polished leather, use a sponge (used one, avoid using a new one) or an eraser to wipe the unclean areas. If it cannot be completely wiped clean, please hand it over to a specialty store for processing. It is strictly forbidden to use leather oil or other chemical methods for treatment.

6. When leather clothing is not worn, it is best to hang it on a hanger; of course, you can also lay it flat, but it should be placed on top of other clothes to avoid it being crushed and wrinkled, which would affect its appearance.

7. Leather clothes should be aired before storage. Do not expose them to the sun. Just hang them in a cool and dry place to ventilate. In order to keep the beautiful color of leather clothing for a longer period of time, you can apply a layer of milk or glycerin on the leather surface before storing it. This way, it can be stored for a long time without changing color. Leather garments that have been washed and dried thoroughly do not require insect repellent. However, it is not suitable to store it in sealed plastic bags, especially in humid places. It can be stored in a clean old piece of clothing or cloth cover. This can ensure that the leather jacket can absorb and release moisture normally under different environmental conditions.
