How to judge whether the liver is healthy

In fact, many physical manifestations are closely related to the internal organs of the body. If the internal organs are not good, it is easier to find out on the outside of the body. Whether the liver is healthy can actually be judged from several aspects, such as whether the eyes are dry and red, or whether the physical strength is sufficient.

How to tell if your liver is healthy

1. Look at the eyes

"The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine" states: "The liver opens to the eyes." The liver meridian starts from the feet, goes up along the inner side of the lower limbs to the abdomen, and is further connected to the eyes through the internal veins. The liver, hidden deep inside the body, continuously provides nutrients to the eyes through the meridian channels, so that our eyes will be bright, lively and energetic. If the liver malfunctions, our eyes will lose nourishment, resulting in symptoms such as blurred vision, dry eyes, red eyes, and dull eyes.

2. Energy status

The generation of physical strength is based on Qi and blood as the material basis, with meridians as the channels, and is achieved through the mutual coordination of the functions of the five internal organs. The liver is responsible for regulating Qi and thus ensuring the normal flow of Qi and blood in the internal organs. Failure of the liver to release its qi will inevitably lead to abnormal circulation of qi and blood, malnutrition of the internal organs, tendons and veins, thus causing fatigue.

Therefore, liver dysfunction can easily lead to fatigue symptoms, which are mainly manifested as limb weakness, decreased mobility, or frequent joint pain, stiffness in the waist and back, and cramps in the legs and feet.

3. Emotional state

Although emotional activities belong to the functions of the heart, they are also closely related to the liver. Normal emotional activities mainly depend on sufficient essence and blood and smooth flow of Qi. The liver is responsible for regulating Qi and blood. Therefore, if the liver function is abnormal, it is easy to experience depression, emotional instability, and sighing, which are often accompanied by chest and flank pain, and the pain is not fixed in any place.

4. Eat less fatty food

Traditional Chinese medicine theory mentions that the spleen is responsible for transportation and transformation, while the stomach is responsible for receiving food, and the rise and fall of the spleen and stomach are inseparable from the normal function of the liver's drainage. When the liver function is abnormal, people tend to dislike fatty foods, and in severe cases, they may vomit after eating greasy foods.

5. Skin condition

(1) Yellowing of the skin: related to abnormal liver metabolism and intrahepatic cholestasis.

(2) Severe dark circles: The face appears dark and grey, especially around the eye sockets. Medically known as pigmentation. This is due to melanin metabolism disorder caused by liver disease.

(3) Spider nevi and palmar erythema: The occurrence of spider nevi and palmar erythema is related to the increase of sex hormones in the human body. When liver function is abnormal, the sex hormones secreted by the body cannot be degraded and inactivated in a timely and effective manner, resulting in congestion and dilation of the surface arterioles.

(4) Varicose veins of the abdominal wall: The abdominal wall veins of normal people are generally not visible, or are only vaguely visible. When the liver function is seriously abnormal, the resistance of abdominal venous return will increase, congestion and varicose veins will occur, and the venous veins may extend radially from the navel. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by abdominal wall edema and a feeling of tight skin.

6. Coagulation status

Most people know that blood coagulation function is related to platelets. In fact, in addition to platelets, the body's blood coagulation function also relies on the help of many coagulation factors, and the liver is the base camp for producing coagulation factors.

Whether it is coagulation factors or proteins needed to dissolve blood clots, most of them are synthesized in the liver, and a small part is produced by endothelial cells or white blood cells. Therefore, when liver function is impaired, it will not only affect blood coagulation, but also blood clot dissolution. Therefore, a bad liver will not only make it difficult to stop bleeding, but may also cause excessive blood coagulation and blood vessel blockage.
