What is a sigmoid colon polyp

People should be familiar with human diseases in their lives. The improvement of people's quality of life in today's society has led to a significant decline in the physical fitness of most people. Therefore, many people with poor physical fitness are very susceptible to diseases. Intestinal diseases are a common disease in life, which are generally caused by people's bad eating habits. So, what is a sessile polyp of the sigmoid colon?

First, what are sigmoid colon polyps? The severity of broad-based polyps in the sigmoid colon depends on the condition of the base. In most cases, this is an adenomatous lesion with certain atypia of the glandular epithelium. Long-term presence may lead to the development of intestinal cancer, so timely treatment is required. If colonoscopy cannot remove it, intestinal segment resection is recommended. It is generally believed that polyps are the precursor to cancer. From a pathological point of view, adenomas have a tendency to become malignant. ② Polyposis can affect the entire large intestine, and the degree of malignancy is very high, accounting for about 60%. 2. Polyp size: The larger the adenocarcinoma polyp, the higher the malignancy rate. 3. Location of polyps: High-positioned polyps are more likely to become cancerous than low-positioned ones. According to statistics, the canceration rate of tubular adenomas in the rectum is 7.3%, while that in the sigmoid colon is 24.8%. 4. Shape of polyps: Broad-based polyps are more likely to become cancerous than pedunculated polyps. The canceration rate of pedunculated polyps is 4.5%, while that of broad-based polyps is 10.2%. The potential for canceration of sessile polyps is significantly greater than that of pedunculated polyps.

Second, the cause of formation, chronic inflammatory stimulation: long-term chronic inflammation may be a factor causing anorectal malignancy. Long-term stimulation of the anal skin, such as chronic bacterial infection, amoebic dysentery, chronic nonspecific colitis, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissure, suppurative hidradenitis, folliculitis, etc., can also cause malignant transformation. ② Malignant transformation of benign tumors: Familial rectal polyposis, rectal adenoma, papilloma, etc., under certain conditions, can also lead to malignant lesions. ③ Caused by sexually transmitted diseases: Unclean sexual intercourse can cause the anus to suffer from difficult and complicated diseases or papillary fibroma, and long-term friction and stimulation can cause malignant changes. ④Dietary factors: A diet high in fat, protein, and low in fiber is related to the onset of rectal malignancy. This is because high-fat foods can increase bile secretion and promote the growth of intestinal bacteria. Under the action of anaerobic bacteria, cholesterol and bile salts form unsaturated cholesterol, such as deoxycholic acid and lithocholic acid. The amount of these two carcinogens increases, promoting the onset of rectal malignancy.

What is a sessile polyp of the sigmoid colon? Sigmoid colon polyps require surgical treatment because this lesion has a certain rate of malignant transformation, so surgical treatment is a wise treatment method.

Suggestions: It is recommended that you actively seek medical attention in the surgical department and consider elective surgery.
