Tips on how to wash yellowed quilt covers

Tips on how to wash yellowed quilt covers
For some sheets and quilt covers that have been used for a long time, they will become yellow due to contamination by human fat and sweat. When many friends encounter this situation, they will throw away the yellowed sheets and quilt covers. If the quilt cover turns yellow, it will be very difficult to clean. In fact, for the case of yellowing of the quilt cover, we can use some tips to restore the quilt cover to its original appearance.

1. Exposure and soaking

For yellowed sheets, we must follow the correct method when washing them. First, we put the yellowed sheets in the sun for 1-2 hours. Exposure to the sun will whiten the sheets and make yellowing easier to wash out. After exposure to the sun, we soak the yellowed sheets in water at normal temperature for more than an hour.

2. Cleaning

After completing step one. How should we clean yellowed sheets? Hand wash or machine wash? In fact, it can be washed by hand or in a washing machine. But before normal washing, be sure to sprinkle some laundry detergent for pre-cleaning (laundry detergent can remove sweat stains). If you encounter more stubborn sweat stains, dishwashing detergent will come in handy. Squeeze some detergent on the yellowed area and brush it a few times with a small brush.

3. Boil

Two methods have been introduced above. These two methods seem to be time-consuming. If you don’t have much time, do we have any other methods for yellowed sheets? Boiling water is also a good method. Of course, there is a prerequisite that your sheets are relatively heat-resistant, otherwise it will cause certain damage to the sheets.

First boil a pot of water at about 70-80℃, pour it into a basin, soak the yellowed sheets in it for a few minutes, add some detergent, and wait for the detergent to dissolve. Just use a small brush to brush back and forth several times until the yellowed area is gone.

4. Use white gasoline

If the above methods still cannot remove the yellowing of the sheets, then the degree of yellowing may be a bit deep. At this time, we can rub them with white spirit. First, expose the sheets to the sun for 1-2 hours. After that, add some white spirit to the yellowed parts and scrub them. It is recommended that you wear gloves when using white spirit. After all, white spirit is a chemical substance, so avoid harm to the human body. After scrubbing the sheets, just wash them with cold water.

5. Bleach Cleaning

For some solid and light-colored sheets, once yellowed, the stains will be very strong. You can consider washing or steaming with bleach. However, before using bleach, be sure to pay attention to the washing instructions on the sheet label to see if it can be washed with bleach, and pay attention to the soaking time and the amount of bleach used. Otherwise, not only will it fail to solve the yellowing of the sheets, but it will damage the sheets.
