Neuralgia behind the ear

Neuralgia behind the ear

People clean their ears every day when they wash their face. Some people also clean the earwax in their ears regularly. Sometimes, they even feel uncomfortable if they don’t clean their ears, as if they have obsessive-compulsive disorder. Some people feel pain in the nerves behind their ears and think that the disease comes out of nowhere. They usually take good care of their ears, so why would problems still occur? Here are some reasons for neuralgia behind the ear. Let’s take a look.

1. What exactly is ear neuralgia?

1. Otogenic ear pain.

1) The first type of ear pain is auricular disease, such as auricular dermatitis and eczema, congenital spreading duct with infection, auricular hematoma, auricular erysipelas, auricular chondritis, external ear tuberculosis, etc.

2) Otogenic ear pain may be caused by external auditory canal diseases, such as the internal auditory canal, malignant external otitis, external auditory canal embolism, external auditory canal cholesteatoma, external auditory canal fungal disease, external auditory canal trauma, obstructive keratosis of the auditory canal, external otitis, etc.

3) Otogenic ear pain may also be caused by middle ear diseases, such as acute attack of chronic suppurative otitis media, tympanic membrane trauma, tuberculous otitis media, malignant tumor of the middle ear, barotraumatic otitis media, acute mastoiditis, bullous myringitis, and acute suppurative otitis media.

2. The above are diseases of the ear itself, and the following is about reflex ear pain.

1) Diseases around the ears, such as mumps and acute periauricular lymphadenitis.

2) Oral, nose and throat diseases, oral diseases such as acute tonsillitis, pericoronitis of wisdom teeth, post-tonsillectomy, and ulcers at the root of the tongue; nasal diseases such as maxillary sinus cancer and acute sinusitis; throat diseases such as pharyngeal abscess, pharyngeal tumor, pharyngeal ulcer, hypopharyngeal cancer, elongated styloid process, and laryngeal tuberculosis.

3. Bad living habits can also cause neuralgia behind the ear.

1) Picking your ears too frequently or using improper methods.

2) Feeling irritable.

3) The food is too spicy or greasy.

4) Poor sleep.

4. It should be noted that neuralgia behind the ear often has some precursors, such as mild pain in the ear, pus in the ear, hearing loss, etc. If these problems occur, you should pay attention.

2. Below, the editor will introduce several common methods to relieve neuralgia behind the ear, hoping it will be helpful.

1. If the ear itself is sick, such as otitis media, eardrum injury, sinusitis or other ear, nose and throat diseases, you need to see a doctor immediately, otherwise it will delay the disease and miss the best treatment time.

2. If the neuralgia behind the ear is caused by internal heat in the body, you need to take some medicine to clear away heat, reduce fire and detoxify, and pay attention to diet control and avoid eating spicy and greasy foods.

3. If the neuralgia behind the ear is caused by anxiety or excessive stress, you should try to adjust yourself, such as going to the gym, taking a walk in the park, etc. After your attention is diverted, your anxiety will be relieved.

4. Airplane ear: ear pain occurs because the pharyngeal tube cannot properly adjust the changes in atmospheric pressure inside and outside the ear. When the plane takes off and lands, you can consciously cover your ears or put some cotton in your ears. In addition, nasal sprays and chewing gum can also relieve airplane ears. However, people with heart disease and irregular heartbeat should not use nasal sprays or other anti-nasal congestion drugs.

5. Swimmer's ear: This may be caused by water entering the ear while swimming. You can try hot compresses, applying a hot towel to the ear every two hours, each time for about 10 to 15 minutes. If you don't have a hot towel, you must lift your head high, and don't tilt your head, which will easily aggravate the severity of the headache.
