Why does pomegranate turn black

Why does pomegranate turn black

Pomegranate is a fruit with very high nutritional value in our life. There are many pomegranate fruits inside, and they are red. In China, red represents the symbol of blessing. And because there are many fruits and flesh densely packed in a pomegranate, it is also a symbol of many children and good fortune in ancient China. However, when people buy pomegranates to eat, after cutting them and leaving them for a while, the pomegranates will start to turn black. What’s going on?

Why do pomegranates turn black?

Black spot disease, pomegranate trees should be pruned in time in summer to improve ventilation and light conditions and reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. After fruit setting, the main diseases are white rot, black pox and anthracnose. Spraying 200 times the equivalent amount of Bordeaux mixture once every half a month or so can prevent the occurrence of various diseases. When the disease is serious, fungicides such as thiabendazim, mancozeb, and carbendazim can be sprayed.

2. How to prevent pomegranate from turning black

Pomegranate is an important deciduous fruit tree in northern my country. It has a long flowering period and bright colors. It is often widely planted as a greening tree species. In rural northern my country, there is a habit of planting pomegranates in courtyards since ancient times. The fruit has high nutritional value and tastes sweet and sour, making it one of the important fresh fruits that people love.

In recent years, many fruit farmers have reported that every summer, a large number of pomegranate fruits begin to rot, which is heartbreaking. In fact, most pomegranate fruit rots are caused by fungal diseases. When preventing and controlling, we should first start with prevention, such as cutting off diseased fruits in early spring to reduce the source of disease; spray 800 times of carbendazim or 1000 times of thiophanate-methyl before flowering; secondly, after fruit setting, spray 600-700 times of chlorpyrifos or 800 times of fungicide, focusing on spraying the calyx to prevent the disease from invading. To prevent insect pests, 1200 times of methamphetamine can be mixed into the solution. Third, cut off the diseased fruits in time, and spray 1:1.5:180 Bordeaux liquid before the rainy season comes. Spray fungicide once every half a month to ensure safety.

3. How to make pomegranate bear better fruits

1. Peeling: When the pomegranate is about 80% ripe, which is around the end of July in the lunar calendar, use a knife to remove a small piece of skin from the fruit branch near the pomegranate, usually on an inconspicuous part of the back, 1 to 3 cm long and 0.5 to 1 cm wide (depending on the actual situation), deep into the wood, to reduce the mother body's nutrient supply to the fruit.

2. Fertilization: Pomegranate likes fertilizer. Apply base fertilizer before germination in early spring, combined with repotting and changing the soil, mainly with decomposed oil cake fertilizer. Apply nitrogen fertilizer thinly when new buds sprout. Use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers mainly before flowering and after fruit setting. Stop fertilizing during the flowering period. Because the pomegranate has a long flowering period, when symptoms of fertilizer deficiency appear, you can spray fertilizer on the leaves with 0.1% urea or 0.3%-0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate; it is not suitable to apply fertilizer during the fruit ripening period. It is strictly forbidden to apply high-concentration quick-acting fertilizers during the fruit ripening period, otherwise the pomegranate will easily crack prematurely.

3. Water less. Pomegranates prefer dryness and are afraid of waterlogging. Especially when the fruit enters the ripening period, do not water it excessively. Water it appropriately depending on the soil conditions.

4. In mid-July of the lunar calendar, when the fruit is 70% to 80% ripe, start bagging the pomegranates. It is best to use special bags. If you use ordinary plastic bags, you need to reserve ventilation holes. The purpose of bagging is to prevent the pomegranate from cracking prematurely due to wind and sun.
