How to remove the smell from curtains

We all know that when many people decorate their new homes, they will leave them vacant for about half a year or a year before moving in. This is not only to release formaldehyde in the air, but also because some new furniture will produce substances that are harmful to the body. Even our newly bought curtains will have a certain smell. Many people feel the smell is unpleasant after hanging new curtains and can't sleep. So how do you get rid of the smell of new curtains?

1. After buying new curtains, you should soak and wash them in clean water first, so as to reduce the formaldehyde content remaining on the fabric. After washing, it is best to place the curtain cloth in a ventilated place outdoors to dry before using it.

2. Curtains with odor do not necessarily contain formaldehyde. It is mainly chemical fiber curtains, especially those that are thickened or coated during the production process for the purpose of shading, UV protection, etc., that have a particularly obvious odor. In fact, formaldehyde has no odor. There are two situations when you can clearly smell the odor. One is the odor of chemical fiber or sunshade paint, and the other is the smell of both odor and formaldehyde. If the curtains only contain formaldehyde, it is generally difficult for us to feel the smell of the curtains, because the amount of formaldehyde released from the curtains is not very high, and it is difficult for inexperienced people to feel the irritation of formaldehyde.

3. Methods to remove odor from curtains:

1. Cleaning:

Washing with water can dissolve some of the free formaldehyde in the curtains into water, thereby removing this part of the formaldehyde. Therefore, it is better to clean the newly bought curtains.

2. Use professional formaldehyde removal products;

4. Precautions for removing odor from curtains:

1. If it is a double-layer blackout curtain, the coated blackout cloth must be treated on both sides, that is, the inner side of the blackout cloth that cannot be seen must be treated. Both sides of the blackout cloth must be treated, otherwise the effect will not be ideal;

2. Unlike formaldehyde removal, odor removal takes time. Formaldehyde removal is often effective immediately, with the effects being felt after two or three hours; odor removal takes two or three days to feel effective, and generally takes a week to 10 days to remove the odor.
