Antiperspirant Principle

Generally speaking, the human body sweats easily in a high temperature environment, and in life, fat people sweat more easily than thin people. Although sweating is a normal phenomenon, if you sweat too much in summer, it is easy to cause body odor. Therefore, many people use antiperspirants to relieve sweating. Many people don’t understand how antiperspirants stop sweating. In fact, antiperspirants can simply block the sweat glands of the human body.

The lichen extract in the antiperspirant formula has antibacterial properties. The active ingredient of the antiperspirant is aluminum chlorohydrate, whose main function is to act as an astringent to temporarily block the sweat gland ducts and inhibit sweat discharge (not to stop sweating, but to convert apocrine glands into eccrine glands), while the natural fragrance plays an aromatic masking and deodorizing role.

Antiperspirant, which is fragrant and refreshing, is one of the must-have items for fashion trendsetters in summer and is becoming more and more popular. However, long-term use of antiperspirants will lead to the accumulation of chemical components in them, which may cause symptoms such as tinea versicolor, skin redness, itching, and skin pain. Therefore, you should try not to use antiperspirants or use them as little as possible.

Hidden Disease

1. Allergy. The 6%-20% aluminum chloride anhydrous ethanol solution, 5%-10% formaldehyde solution, 5% tannic acid, flavors and additives (5% alum, 10% urotropine solution and 5% urotropine gel stick) in commonly used deodorants and antiperspirants may induce allergic diseases of different systems and degrees, such as rhinitis, skin erythema, etc. due to different sensitivities of the human body.

2. Inflammation. Excessive use of antiperspirants will artificially suppress sweating, which will cause blockage of the sweat gland ducts, prevent metabolic waste from being discharged normally, and the skin from lack of protection. The excrement will continue to irritate the skin and cause symptoms such as tinea versicolor, skin redness, swelling, and itching. In severe cases, it may even cause folliculitis.

3. Infection. Some people mistakenly believe that antiperspirant can dry out wounds and speed up healing, so sometimes they spray a little antiperspirant on wounds or exudates that have not yet healed. Do not use antiperspirant around wounds. The chemical components in the antiperspirant may be absorbed by the human body through the skin wound, causing secondary infection or worsening of the condition.

4. Poisoning. Formaldehyde is used in deodorants and antiperspirants mainly as a preservative. However, a large number of people have poor immunity to this chemical ingredient. Antiperspirants act directly on human skin, so poisoning occurs from time to time. After human poisoning, it mainly causes systemic diseases with damage mainly to the eyes, respiratory system and central nervous system, accompanied by symptoms such as tearing, severe eye pain, itchy throat, coughing, difficulty breathing, suffocation, general weakness, sweating and headache.

5. Shock. When the temperature is very high or when exercising, applying or spraying antiperspirant products over large areas of the body to forcibly stop sweating will inevitably cause the body temperature to overheat, and in severe cases, heat shock may occur.

If you do not have a constitution that causes excessive sweating, try not to use antiperspirant or use it less often. If you must use antiperspirant, it is best to try it on the inside of your upper arm or behind your ear before use. If you experience symptoms such as redness, swelling, erythema, and itching, stop using it immediately.

Good living habits can avoid odor after sweating: take a bath frequently and clean your armpits regularly; eat less spicy food; wear cool, loose short-sleeved clothes; drink more lactic acid drinks to inhibit the growth of bacteria in the body and reduce the bacteria discharged through the sweat glands.
