How to deal with formaldehyde exceeding the standard?

People in modern society have a strong awareness of environmental protection. Human health is the most important, especially for newly renovated houses where formaldehyde levels may be too high. In this case, you must clean the formaldehyde in time to ensure that the formaldehyde does not exceed the standard and has no impact on the human body before moving into the new house. Many people do not know how to deal with formaldehyde exceeding the standard. How to control formaldehyde exceeding the standard? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. Open windows for ventilation

The new house has just been renovated and has a serious odor. The pollution is definitely several times or even dozens of times higher than the standard. Therefore, in the first one to two weeks, the best way is to open the windows for a long time to ventilate and discharge the pollutants in the indoor air to the outside through air convection. In addition, electric fans can be used to help accelerate the indoor and outdoor air convection. This method can quickly reduce the content of harmful substances in indoor air.

2. Use activated carbon.

After effective ventilation, indoor air pollution has been greatly reduced. Therefore, the current focus of governance should shift to solving the source of slow release of indoor pollution to ensure the long-term stability of a healthy home environment. Due to indoor decoration pollution, formaldehyde levels in newly renovated houses generally exceed the standard. The first year after home decoration, especially the first six months, is a period of strong release of harmful gases such as formaldehyde and benzene. The general release period is 3-15 years. This slow release process determines that the means or products for pollution control must meet two conditions: A. Long-term effectiveness; B. Ability to directly act on the source of pollution.

3. Notes

Professional data show that in a closed room, the formaldehyde concentration is 0.52 mg/cubic meter. If several pots of so-called formaldehyde-absorbing plants are placed in the room, after 24 hours, the formaldehyde concentration becomes 0.51 mg/cubic meter. It can be seen that the change is very small. After another 48 hours, the formaldehyde concentration is still 0.51 mg/cubic meter.

4. Are there any plants that absorb formaldehyde?

1. Among all plants, the most efficient one in absorbing formaldehyde is the green radish. According to data given by experts, a pot of green radish absorbs an average of 20 micrograms of formaldehyde per hour. In a room with a height of 3 meters and an area of 100 square meters and a formaldehyde concentration of 0.2 mg/m3, 1,800 pots of green ivy need to be placed in it, and sufficient light must be provided during the day and no more formaldehyde will be released during the entire experiment in order to reduce the formaldehyde concentration to 0.08 mg/m3. At this time, the green ivy almost fills the entire room. In fact, the newly renovated house and furniture will continue to release formaldehyde, so it is unrealistic to rely on plants to remove formaldehyde.

2. In addition to the green ivy, according to experimental data, Sansevieria and Chlorophytum comosum both have the ability to passively "absorb" formaldehyde. You can place a few pots of them as embellishments, but it is really impossible to remove formaldehyde.
