Although massage techniques are effective, these groups of people should use them with caution!

Tui Na is a very popular massage method nowadays. It can travel through all the acupuncture points of the body, speed up the blood circulation throughout the body, and relieve the symptoms of back pain and leg pain. After the massage, no injections or medication are needed, and you can recover after a good sleep. Although the massage is very effective, it should be noted that patients with lumbar disc disease, heart disease, and high blood pressure cannot undergo massage because they belong to a special group.

When using massage techniques to treat low back pain, you need to pay special attention to the following points:

(1) Patients with obvious local bone lesions, such as bone and joint fractures, dislocations, severe lumbar spondylolisthesis, and pedicle nonunion should not be treated with massage techniques. The above-mentioned lumbar bone lesions should be ruled out before massage therapy.

(2) People with hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and other systemic diseases should use massage techniques with caution. Massage therapy is prohibited if the patient has severe skin diseases, infectious diseases, or is suspected of having tuberculosis, tumors, etc. Women should not use massage therapy during menstruation or pregnancy.

(3) For some complex situations, massage techniques should be used with caution. For example, patients with central lumbar disc herniation, who have a long course of illness, severe pain, obvious symptoms of nerve compression, or rapidly worsening and complicated condition, may have ruptured posterior longitudinal ligament, most of the protrusion outside the ligament, or there may be obvious adhesions, or the protruding nucleus pulposus may be free in the spinal canal. At this time, if a large-amplitude manipulation is performed, the lumbar spine may be passively over-flexed or extended, and the protrusion may protrude further into the spinal canal, causing more serious nerve damage, and even lower limb muscle paralysis after the manipulation.

(4) After a massage technique with a stronger stimulation, especially a massage technique such as lumbar rotation and reduction, stilt-stepping method, or a massage technique performed by more than two people, you need to lie on a hard bed to rest, or wear a waist belt for support and protection. At the same time, you should pay attention to keeping your waist warm.
