Do I need to get an injection if a chinchilla bear bites me?

In modern life, people's living standards have improved, and more and more people are beginning to enjoy life. Among them, raising pets is also one of the pleasures of life. There are many types of pets, among which chinchilla bears are a more popular animal. However, many people are bitten when raising them, and rabies virus may exist in pets. So, if a chinchilla bear bites someone, do you need to get an injection?

Rabies vaccine is mainly for people who have been bitten by dogs or scratched by cats; in addition, rabies vaccine should also be given to people who have been bitten by rats. However, for hamsters, chinchillas and other rodent pets, since they are less likely to contract rabies, it is not necessary to get a rabies vaccine if you are bitten by them; if you are really worried, you can also go to the epidemic prevention department for the injection, because the rabies vaccine itself has no side effects and there is no harm after the injection.

Rabies prevention:

First, domestic dogs should be vaccinated regularly. There are currently two types of rabies vaccines produced in my country, namely rabies vaccine and rabies attenuated cell freeze-dried vaccine. The dosage for rabies vaccine for dogs is: 3 ml for dogs weighing less than 4 kg and 5 ml for dogs weighing more than 4 kg. Animals bitten by sick dogs should be given emergency vaccination immediately. In this case, one injection of the vaccine is not enough, and two injections should be given at intervals of 3 to 5 months. Vaccinated dogs can obtain immunity for half a year.

Second, we must strengthen quarantine. When unvaccinated dogs enter the country, in addition to strengthening isolation and observation, they must be vaccinated in a timely manner, otherwise they are prohibited from entering the country. Wild dogs and other wild animals that are not kept by anyone, especially those in epidemic areas of this disease, should be killed.

Third, sick dogs and livestock that have shown clinical symptoms should be killed immediately and should not be treated. The body should be buried deeply and not eaten.

New bites to dogs should be treated promptly. The therapeutic effect depends on the duration of treatment and whether the local treatment is thorough. When bitten, let the local bleeding first, then rinse the wound thoroughly with soapy water to eliminate the virus in the local tissue, and then treat it with 0.1% mercuric chloride solution or alcohol, iodine, etc. If rabies immune serum is available, it is better to inject it at several points around the wound (the dosage is calculated as 1.5 ml per kilogram of body weight, and it is best to complete the injection within 72 hours after the bite). If serum is unavailable, emergency vaccination should be carried out promptly with vaccine.

Fourth, for those who are bitten, the wound should be quickly washed with 20% soapy water and treated with 3% iodine. Rabies vaccine should also be administered in time (once each on the first, third, seventh, fourteenth and thirtieth days, and booster injections on the fortieth and fiftieth days), which can often achieve preventive and therapeutic effects.
