Black bloodshot eyes

Black bloodshot eyes

Some people may have encountered the phenomenon of black bloodshot eyes. There are many reasons for this phenomenon. It is not caused by a fixed disease. It may also be caused by excessive use of the eyes, and some are even caused by the abuse of cosmetics. Therefore, it is very important to understand the situation clearly, which will help us to solve the problem. Let’s take a look at the causes of black bloodshot eyes.

The surface of our eyeball can be simply divided into two parts: the black pupil and the white pupil.

Normally, we have a clear distinction between black and white. The outermost part of our black eyeball is the cornea (of course, ignoring the tear film on the cornea), but the cornea is colorless and transparent. Why is it black? This is because there is a structure behind our cornea called the iris, which is rich in pigments, and the pigments contained in different races may be different. We Chinese are generally dark brown, which looks like black eyeballs.

What is the white of the eyeball? It is called the sclera. It is the tough wall of the entire eyeball that supports the eyeball. It is opaque and porcelain white, commonly known as the white of the eye, and has very few blood vessels.

Since there are so few blood vessels, why does it look like there are bloodshot?

This is because the surface of the sclera is covered with a thin layer of tissue - the conjunctiva. It is soft, smooth and transparent, and contains abundant capillaries. Under normal circumstances, they are not visible to the naked eye. We can understand that these blood vessels are in a dormant state, but once stimulated, such as infection, injury, excessive fatigue, etc., the "dormant" blood vessels will expand and become congested, and this is the bloodshot we see.

Therefore, friends who have bloodshot eyes need to pay attention, because bloodshot eyes definitely mean that the eyes are in a sub-healthy state. A normal person's eyes have clear black and white.

What situations can easily cause red bloodshot eyes?

1. Excessive use of eyes. For office workers, this may be the norm: looking at the computer and reading documents at work, watching TV and playing with the phone after get off work, and lowering the head to continue browsing on the phone when bored on the way. However, if you do not pay attention to resting your eyes, it will cause excessive strain on your eyes, which will cause red bloodshot eyes.

2. Local infection. Rubbing your eyes with your hands or foreign objects entering your eyes may cause bacteria or viruses to invade your eyes, causing local infection of the eyes and the appearance of red bloodshot.

3. Abuse of cosmetics. Nowadays, many women who love beauty like to put on eye makeup. However, long-term heavy makeup may irritate the eyes, damage the skin around the eyes, destroy the skin's stratum corneum, and weaken the elasticity of capillaries, causing them to rupture or dilate, thereby causing red blood streaks. Therefore, you should pay attention to protecting your eyes when using cosmetics or removing makeup.

4. Wear contact lenses. If first-time wearers cannot wear and care for the lenses correctly, red bloodshot eyes are likely to appear; wearing the lenses for too long may cause corneal hypoxia and redness; if the contact lenses press too tightly on the eyeballs or the lenses have poor oxygen permeability, red bloodshot eyes may also appear; some people are allergic to certain chemicals in the solutions used to clean or soak and maintain contact lenses, which can also cause red eyes.

5. If patients with severe hypertension, platelet deficiency and other diseases experience symptoms of red and bloodshot eyes, it means that the eyes have been invaded by the primary disease.
