Knee discomfort when walking

Knee discomfort when walking

The knee joint is one of the important joints in the human body, and its health is directly related to our physical health. Knee pain is a common phenomenon in life. It is generally caused by aging of the joints, external injuries caused by excessive fatigue, and not paying attention to knee protection and catching cold. These are all causes of knee discomfort. If you want to have healthy knees, you must pay attention to keeping your knees warm and reduce the load.

In addition, the following conditions can also cause knee pain:

1. Osteoarthritis of the knee

Most middle-aged and elderly people, especially women, often suffer from osteoarthritis of the knee. This disease is mainly caused by excessive load. Its symptoms are generally swelling and soreness of the knee joint. It may be accompanied by inner pain and friction sound during activities. If you check the knee carefully, you may find that it is deformed and turned inward.

2. Knee ligament injury

Knee ligament injuries are relatively common, usually caused by sudden force on the knee when it is slightly bent, resulting in loss of stability and causing medial or lateral collateral ligament injuries. Symptoms are generally pain and swelling on the medial side of the knee. The pain worsens when the calf is stretched outward by external force, and bruises will appear after a few days. Patients with knee ligament injuries generally have a clear history of trauma.

3. Traumatic synovitis of the knee

Due to trauma or excessive strain, the patient's knee synovium may be damaged, resulting in a large accumulation of synovial fluid secreted by synovial cells, increasing the pressure within the joint. If it is not eliminated in time, it can easily lead to joint adhesion. The symptoms are generally a rough and frictional sound of the synovium, and the pain below the patella is aggravated when the knee joint is actively and extremely straightened or straightened or bent under a certain resistance.

4. Fat pad strain

People over 30 who frequently walk, climb, and squat often experience fat pad strain. Due to trauma or long-term friction, the patient's fat pad may become congested and thickened, causing joint inflammation, or the fat pad may adhere to the patellar ligament, destroying the stability of the knee joint and causing limited knee joint movement. The symptoms are generally knee pain, which is aggravated when fully extended and is more obvious after severe exertion.

5. Meniscus injury

Some athletes often suffer from meniscus injuries, the symptoms of which are generally obvious tearing sensation in the knee, accompanied by joint pain and limited movement. If the feet are fixed, the lower limbs are bearing weight, and the knees are slightly bent, suddenly overstretching the knees will most likely cause a meniscus tear.

If your knee shows any of the above symptoms, you should go to the hospital for a thorough examination as soon as possible, consult a doctor, screen the cause, and avoid worsening. At the same time, we can also pay more attention to the following points in daily life to prevent and maintain knee pain:

1. Control your weight

Obesity will increase the burden on the knees and intensify the wear and tear on the knee joints. If you want to protect your knee joints, it is necessary to maintain a normal weight.

2. Exercise Tips

First of all, you should choose sports shoes of the right size and with a certain cushioning function. People with foot deformities and flat feet must choose special sports shoes under the advice of a doctor; secondly, you should do warm-up exercises before exercise to activate the function of the knee joint; finally, the amount of exercise should be determined according to personal circumstances. The more exercise is not necessarily better. Excessive exercise will lead to knee strain; in addition, you should avoid concrete roads when running and try to choose soft surfaces. It is best to run on a professional plastic track.

Knee pain cannot be ignored. When symptoms appear, we must identify the cause and seek timely treatment, especially for middle-aged and elderly patients. Do not self-diagnose or rely on informal medical institutions to adopt folk remedies or other treatment methods, which will aggravate the condition.
