How to prevent and treat watermelon rind

Watermelon skin disease is a symptom of fungal infection of watermelon. When watermelon is infected with this disease, water-like spots will appear on the peel of the watermelon. In more serious cases, the surface of the watermelon will crack. If you do not pay attention to timely prevention and control, it will lead to a poor harvest of watermelons, affect the quality of the watermelons, and prevent the watermelons from maturing. At this time, it can be treated with certain drugs.

How to prevent and treat watermelon rind

Bacterial fruit spot disease of watermelon, also known as dark skin melon, has water-soaked leaf spots that extend along the veins to form dark brown angular spots or large irregular necrotic spots. When there is heavy dew in the early morning, the spots on the back of the leaves will secrete bacterial pus, which will turn into a grayish white fungal film after drying. Water-soaked spots appear on the skin of the diseased fruit. They are dark green with irregular edges and gradually darken into brown. In severe cases, the fruit surface will crack and the lesions will exude sticky, transparent amber-colored pus.

It can be controlled by spraying with thiophanate-methyl, quinoline copper, chlorothiazide, agricultural streptomycin, etc.

1. The key is to select seeds with good disease resistance. At the same time, disinfect the seeds. Use streptomycin or streptomycin to soak the seeds for sterilization and then germinate them. Judging from the current field conditions, Sweet King and other non-mine melon varieties have stronger disease resistance.

2. Ensure drainage of low-lying areas. Waterlogging in fields is the most taboo. Fields are prone to waterlogging in areas with large amounts of water. The temperature at night has been low recently, and the dew on the watermelon leaves provides a channel for the spread of pathogens, so do not water them at night.

3. Do a good job in disease prevention and control, and use medication to prevent the disease in the early stages of the disease.

Degree of harm

The incidence of diseased plots can reach 40%-70%, and in more serious cases it can reach 100%. Even in plots that have never been planted with watermelons, gourds, melons, etc., it may still occur, causing reduced production or even total crop failure. It is the top late-stage disease of watermelon. What is even more strange is that even if there are no spots on the leaves in the early stage, the watermelon may be covered with dark skin when it weighs about 18-19 kilograms. In March 2006, the Ministry of Agriculture included it in the "National List of Agricultural Plant Quarantine Pests", and in May 2007, the pathogen was included in the "List of Import Plant Quarantine Pests of the People's Republic of China".

Symptoms

The disease can occur in the seedling stage, vine extension stage, flowering stage and fruiting stage, and is especially prevalent in areas with high water content and heavy fog. During the seedling stage, they grow along the leaf veins in the shed, causing the leaves to curl. It is easy to occur after being blistered during the vine extension period. The fruit enlargement period often occurs after rainy days, when strong sunlight shines on the sunny side of the fruit.
