The hazards of myopia correction surgery

The hazards of myopia correction surgery

Corrective surgery for myopia can restore our vision to normal in the short term. But it also brings us some disadvantages. Just like glare and night vision disorders, dry eyes and pseudokeratoconus, in the face of these hazards, what preventive measures should we take to protect our eyes from harm, and what should we pay attention to in our daily lives. As for habits, as long as you persist in doing them, we can minimize the harm after the operation.

1. Glare and night vision impairment:

If the degree of myopia is 700-1000 degrees or above, 80% of people will experience slight glare at night and 25% will have problems with night vision. This is mostly caused by the fact that the surgical area is closer to the visual center during surgery.

2. Dissatisfied with the corrected vision: After the operation, you may feel that the correction is insufficient and not as effective as expected, or that it is overcorrected, and hyperopia, or presbyopia, may occur early.

3. Dry eyes: The tear film nerves may be damaged during surgery, resulting in reduced tear secretion.

4. Pseudokeratoconus: an extreme problem after surgery. This is caused by cutting too deep, which will further reduce vision. Fortunately, the chance of this happening is very low.

II.1. Pay attention to regular follow-up of medication

A successful excimer laser surgery not only depends on the doctor's superb surgical skills, but is also inseparable from regular medication and follow-up after surgery. The use of medication after excimer laser surgery is particularly important and should be used according to the doctor's instructions. Do not stop or abuse the medication at will because you feel good about yourself. At the same time, you should go to the hospital for regular follow-up, otherwise it may lead to the occurrence of excimer surgery sequelae.

2. High myopia still needs to be cautious

Myopic patients often have fundus lesions due to the elongation of their eye axes, especially those with high myopia, which manifests as thinning, atrophy and degeneration of the peripheral retina. Once a retinal hole occurs, it may lead to retinal detachment. Retinal detachment is a common eye disease that causes blindness due to myopia and should be given special attention by myopic patients. Although excimer laser can restore vision to normal, it cannot change the changes that myopia has already caused to the eyes. Therefore, for myopic patients whose vision is normal after surgery, they should still take care of their eyes as they would myopic patients.

3. Still pay attention to eye hygiene

Although those who undergo excimer laser surgery are basically adults over 18 years old, the traditional view is that the vision of adults is relatively stable and not prone to further decline, but the actual situation is not the case. The Chinese nation has a high incidence of myopia. There are nearly 400 million myopic patients in the country, and the number is increasing year by year. There are quite a few people whose myopia is increasing after the age of 20. This is mainly related to the popularization of computers and the increase in work pressure in modern society. Working at close range for excessive periods of time can still lead to further deepening of myopia. Therefore, for people who mainly work at close range, they still need to pay attention to protecting their eyes after excimer laser surgery.

3. 1. In the early period after surgery: Avoid strong light and it is best to wear sunglasses when going out. Pay attention to using your eyes scientifically.

2. Use of eyes: In the early period after surgery, some friends may have difficulty in seeing far and near, may have uneven vision in both eyes, and see double images. These are all normal postoperative phenomena, so please don't worry. Visual recovery usually occurs 2 weeks to 1 month after surgery. It takes about three months for vision to completely stabilize.
