There are many different types of street dance. Next, I will introduce to you the different types of street dance.

Street dance genres and origins

Based on the movements, common types of street dance include two categories: one is individual skill dance, and the other is group street dance. Individual skill street dance is the earliest popular type of street dance. It has many types of movements, such as tumbling, handstands, bouncing, etc. Individual skill dance is a street dance with high viewing value. Group street dance is a more popular form of street dance. It reflects the needs of the public. It is relatively simple to dance and has a strong sense of rhythm. It has both the feeling of dance and the effect of fitness. The types or genres of street dance are constantly enriched with the development of street dance. From the perspective of subdivided dance types, street dance can include Locking, Poppin, Hiphop, Breaking, Reggae, Jazz, Kids Hiphop, Girls

Style (female street dance) and so on.

Locking

The name Locking comes from the concept of the "locking" action, which basically means freezing from a very fast movement, then stopping in a specific posture, maintaining that posture for a short time, and then continuing to return to the original speed. The founder of locking is Don Campbell. In the late 1960s, he incorporated several popular dance styles into his performances, adding moves of his own (particularly the "Lock" move).

Poppin(Robot Dance)

Robot dance is a style of Funk and Street Dance. Its original basic form is to use the technique of rapid contraction and relaxation of muscles in various parts of the body to make the dancer feel vibration. It uses the vibration of muscles and joints in various parts of the body. With the beat of the music, the muscles are tensed, contracted and relaxed. When the muscles vibrate, the muscles tighten instantly, releasing the force all at once, and then relax, relaxing the muscles to the loosest. This is repeated quickly and continuously, driving the joints to move, forming a role image like a machine working. Boogaloo Sam, the founder of Poppin, and his dance troupe The Electric Boogaloos in the late 1970s used Funk Style extensively in their dances, and gradually integrated them with Breaking, Locking and other dance styles to create a new dance style.

Breaking

Breaking (also known as Breakdance and B-Boying in English and floor breakdance in Chinese) originated in the Bronx district of New York City in the 1970s. It is a difficult street dance that pays more attention to the combination of dance steps and techniques. It is mainly composed of several different dance styles such as Top Rock, Up Rock, Footwork, Power Moves and Freeze. The founder of breakdancing is James Browder, a black singer from the East Coast of the United States. He initially sang new songs on TV and created his own strange moves. Young people competed to imitate him and held dancing competitions on the streets. After this dance spread to Los Angeles on the west coast, a dance that imitated the movements of puppet robots appeared. The two major street dances on the east and west coasts of the United States were combined and became very popular among young people.

Jazz

Jazz dance is an extroverted dance that is fast, dynamic and rhythmic. It originated in Africa, and was brought to the United States by black slaves, where it gradually evolved and matured. Jazz dance gives people the feeling of pursuing pleasure, liveliness and vitality, so it has become a favorite dance for many women. Jazz dance includes classical jazz, jazz ballet, Latin jazz and nu jazz. A major feature of jazz dance is that it can be danced freely, unlike many traditional dances that have many restrictions.

Reggae

Reggae originated in Jamaica and was originally called Dancehall. It was later spread and developed in countries such as France and the United States and gradually came into the public eye. It is a way for the younger generation to represent their emotions and thoughts on the issues affecting today's Latin American society, combining elements of various street dances such as jazz, robot dance and wave. The movements of reggae dance are very contagious and more suitable for women to learn.
