How many bones does a human body consist of?

The reason why our human body can walk normally is because there are bones supporting our body. There are many bones and joints. For some medical students, they all know that the human body is composed of more than 200 bones. These more than 200 bones are scattered in various parts of our body and play different roles. Each bone is indispensable to us. So how many bones does a person have?

There are 206 bones in the human body. Among them, there are 29 skull bones, 51 trunk bones, and 126 femurs. Because bones have different positions and functions in different parts of the human body, their shapes are also varied and are called long bones, short bones, flat bones and irregular bones.

Long bones are long and cylindrical in shape. The longer section in the middle is called the shaft, and the more bulging sections at both ends of the long bones are called the epiphysis. The cavity inside the backbone is called the medullary cavity, which contains bone marrow. The bone marrow has hematopoietic function. Long bones are mostly distributed in the limbs, such as the ulna, radius, femur, etc. Most short bones are cubical, such as tarsal bones and carpal bones. Most flat bones are wide, flat, and plate-shaped, such as the parietal bone and scapula. Irregular bones have irregular shapes, such as the vertebrae.

Bones are mainly connected by joints. The larger joints in the human body include the shoulder, elbow, radial joint, hip, knee, etc. A joint is generally composed of the articular surface, the joint cavity and the joint capsule.

There are 26 bones in each foot.

The main function of the arch of the foot is to disperse gravity from the ankle joint through the talus to the metatarsal heads and then to the calcaneus to ensure the stability of the plantar support when standing upright.
