There is purulent discharge from the eyes_There is always discharge from the eyes

When we wake up in the morning, we feel full of strength. After a night's rest, we will feel particularly energetic. If we find a lot of secretions in our eyes at this time, our mood will be affected. In life, many people will have secretions in their eyes. We should pay attention to such phenomenon. In many cases, such phenomenon is caused by some diseases.

What to do if there is constant discharge from the eyes

1. When the eyes are inflamed, there will usually be an increase in secretions. Trachoma can cause an increase in secretions. Trachoma is mainly caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. After suffering from trachoma, symptoms such as tearing, photophobia, and itchy eyes will appear. In severe cases, there may also be symptoms such as follicle and papillary hyperplasia.

2. After suffering from trachoma, you can use eye drops specifically for Chlamydia trachomatis, such as rifampicin eye drops, erythromycin eye ointment, levofloxacin eye drops, etc. When using rifampicin eye drops, it is best not to use it for more than 2 weeks after opening the package. In order to avoid the occurrence of trachoma, in daily life, we should pay attention to eye hygiene and avoid rubbing our eyes with dirty hands.

3. After suffering from bacterial conjunctivitis, the secretions of the conjunctiva will increase. After getting up in the morning, you will find secretions in the corners of your eyes. If the secretions are thick, they may adhere to the upper and lower eyelids. If you have viral keratitis, the discharge is usually watery, and in severe cases, there may be conjunctival edema.

4. For bacterial conjunctivitis, topical eye drops can be used for anti-inflammatory treatment. If the inflammation is more serious, antibiotics can also be used for systemic treatment. For patients with viral conjunctivitis, in addition to topical antiviral eye drops, antiviral drugs can also be taken orally or intravenously.

Types of eye discharge

Watery discharge:

The secretion is a thin, slightly viscous watery liquid. Increased secretion often indicates viral keratoconjunctivitis, early tear duct obstruction, foreign body on the ocular surface, minor trauma, etc. If myopia or astigmatism is not corrected or the glasses are not suitable, watery secretions may increase after reading for a long time, accompanied by eye fatigue.

Viscous secretion:

The secretions often appear in patients with dry eyes and acute allergic conjunctivitis, appearing as a sticky white filamentous substance, which is very similar to the properties of commonly used glue, and are also accompanied by symptoms such as foreign body sensation and itchy eyes. Children with allergic conjunctivitis may also pull out stringy secretions from their eyes when they wake up in the morning.

Mucopurulent discharge:

The discharge is thicker and slightly yellowish. If this type of secretion increases, the possibility of chronic allergic conjunctivitis and trachoma should be considered.

Purulent discharge:

Secretion is the problem that should be taken seriously. The appearance of purulent secretions often indicates bacterial infection and you should go to the hospital for treatment in time. If a large amount of purulent secretions are found in both eyes of a newborn 3 to 4 days after birth, it is highly suggestive of gonococcal conjunctivitis, commonly known as pus-filled eyes.

Bloody discharge:

If you find that your eye discharge is light pink or obviously blood red, it may be caused by eye trauma. In addition, acute infection should also be considered, in which case the patient will also have red eyes, swollen preauricular lymph nodes, etc.
