Are butter nectarines genetically modified?

By autumn, many fruits are ripe. When we pick peaches, we will see juicy peaches, ordinary peaches, and butter peaches. Although there are visible differences between juicy peaches and ordinary peaches, butter peaches are completely mutated. Many people also suspect that butter nectarine is a genetically modified food, because it did not exist before. It does not exist. It is just a variant of ordinary peach. The appearance of nectarine looks like it is brushed with a layer of oil, very smooth, and the nutritional value it contains is not low.

Are nectarines genetically modified?

Nectarine is not a genetically modified fruit. It is a variant of the ordinary peach. It has a smooth and hairless skin (similar to an apple), bright and beautiful color, is easy to harvest and eat, and has strong commercial value. It has become the direction of peach variety improvement and production development in the world. However, before the 1980s, commercial production of nectarines in my country was still blank, and the fundamental reason was the lack of suitable varieties. Although some scientific research units later introduced some nectarine varieties from Europe and the United States for trial planting, these varieties failed to be promoted in production due to their sour flavor and lack of adaptation to my country's ecological and climatic conditions, which led to fruit cracking. In order to fill the gap in domestic nectarine varieties at that time and promote the development of nectarine production in my country, the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences made full use of domestic and foreign nectarine resources and combined artificial hybridization with biotechnology. It took 17 years to develop a new generation of early-maturing sweet nectarine varieties in my country.

Nutritional value and efficacy of nectarine

Every 100 grams of nectarine contains 13% sugar, 1.5% organic acid, 1% pectin, 1.1% protein, 12 mg vitamin C, 40 mg phosphorus, 12 mg calcium, 0.8 mg iron, and 14.5 mg magnesium. In addition, it also contains 17 kinds of amino acids and carotene needed by the human body. Nectarines are rich in nutrients, have the functions of relieving cough and phlegm, replenishing qi and strengthening the kidneys, can lower blood pressure, and prolong life. Eating them can promote development and improve intelligence for children.

The difference between nectarines and ordinary peaches

1. The skin of nectarine is hairless, smooth, shiny, and brightly colored, as if it were coated with oil, while the skin of ordinary peaches is fuzzy, reddish or slightly yellowish, and not shiny.

2. The skin of nectarine is difficult to peel, but the skin of ordinary peaches can be peeled when they are ripe.

3. The flesh of nectarine is crisp and relatively less watery. Ordinary peaches are crisp when raw, and become soft and contain a lot of water when ripe.

4. Nectarines are available earlier, while ordinary peaches are available a little later. However, since different varieties of ordinary peaches mature at different times, they can be sold from early summer to late autumn.
