What is bronchiectasis?

In our daily lives, we often hear about the disease of bronchiectasis, but most people do not particularly understand it. In fact, bronchiectasis is a very common respiratory disease. The most obvious symptom of bronchiectasis is constant coughing, and sometimes there will be symptoms of coughing up sputum or coughing up blood. It is very harmful to human health. If not treated in time, it will cause more serious diseases.

What is bronchiectasis?

Bronchiectasis is a chronic infectious disease caused by repeated infections that leads to changes in the bronchial structure, resulting in columnar or cystic columnar dilation. The main symptoms are still related to infection, such as long-term coughing up large amounts of pus and sputum. During acute attacks, fever and even coughing up blood may also occur. If bronchiectasis is localized, it can be treated with radical surgical resection. In special cases, surgery can be performed to remove areas with more severe lesions or that cause more bleeding. However, this type of surgery only improves symptoms and cannot completely cure bronchiectasis. In addition, bronchiectasis is a chronic infectious disease. As the course of the disease prolongs, the bacteria in the airways may change. Therefore, medication generally requires the selection of sensitive antibiotics based on the results of sputum culture. Some patients have more sputum and also need some drugs to promote sputum dilution and excretion.

What are the contraindications for treating bronchiectasis?

Some foods may cause bronchiectasis to become more severe, such as some foods that are easy to cause internal heat. In addition to some salty and spicy foods that we often eat in daily life, vegetables and fruits are no exception. Although some vegetables and fruits are good for the human body, some vegetables and fruits are yang, and eating too much can easily cause internal heat. For example, lychees and longans are typical foods that are easy to cause internal heat.

1. Avoid eating too hot food

Bronchiectasis is mostly secondary to respiratory tract infection and bronchial obstruction. Patients often have chronic cough and cough up large amounts of sputum, and the bronchi are more sensitive at this time. Eating food that is too hot or too hot can cause further inflammation of the bronchial tubes and the condition will recur and not improve.

Therefore, warm foods such as mutton and dog meat, and hot foods such as spicy hot pot broth should not be eaten. Because these foods will stimulate the esophageal mucosa to become congested and even cause ulcers, making coughing up phlegm more obvious and aggravating the condition.

2. Do not eat irritating food

Do not eat spicy foods such as chili peppers, ginger, garlic, onions, etc., as they will irritate the bronchi and make the condition worse. When eating and cooking, you should pay attention to light food, and avoid strong flavors that will irritate the stomach and intestines.

What can bronchiectasis patients eat to help them recover?
