How can I hold my urine quickly with ultrasound

How can I hold my urine quickly with ultrasound

When people are undergoing a B-ultrasound examination, they must ensure that their bladder is full. This is to prevent mistakes or misdiagnosis during the examination. However, many people choose to empty their bodies during the examination and cannot urinate for a while. If they want to hold their urine quickly, they can use these methods to make their bladder fuller and complete the examination quickly.

1. Why should we hold our urine?

In fact, not all B-ultrasound examinations require holding urine. Holding urine is only necessary when an abdominal examination is required. For example: the lower ureter, bladder, prostate, seminal vesicle, uterus, uterine appendages (fallopian tubes, ovaries), obstetric fetal ultrasound examination (early pregnancy test) for those under 3 months of pregnancy, observation of the position of the placenta if placenta previa is suspected, observation of the length of the pregnant woman's cervical canal, etc. The bladder must be full for the examination to be accurate, so it is necessary to hold urine.

Holding urine to fill the bladder can make the bladder wall appear more clearly. In addition, since the uterus, ovaries, prostate and other organs are located lower and deeper in the pelvic cavity below and behind the bladder, and their front and upper parts are covered by a large amount of intestinal tract, it is difficult for ultrasound to penetrate the intestinal gas to reach these organs.

A bladder filled with urine can effectively push away the intestines occupying the pelvic cavity, overcome the interference of intestinal gas, and elevate the position of these organs so that they can be clearly seen.

Therefore, the doctor will recommend that you drink 1000 ml of water, about the amount of 6-8 paper cups, 1-2 hours before the examination to fill your bladder.

Here comes the point, how can you drink to hold your urine quickly?

2. How to hold urine quickly?

★ Method 1: Make preparations

If you know that you are going to have an ultrasound, you should drink 300 ml of water before going to the hospital, and then drink it slowly after arriving at the hospital according to the situation on site.

★ Method 2: Drink water in small sips to produce urine quickly

When some people hear that they are going to have an ultrasound, they drink a lot of water, pouring it down their stomachs in big gulps. In fact, this will slow down the production of urine.

Because the swallowing action is fast, the water you drink reaches the colon quickly and is absorbed by the stool there (the stool absorbs water and becomes soft). Therefore, part of the water you drink is excreted with the stool.

When you drink water in small sips, the water flows slowly and is easily absorbed by the small intestine into the blood, and finally forms urine and is stored in the bladder. In this way, urine is produced faster.

Drinking small sips of water while walking can speed up urine production.

★ Method 3: Drink sugar water

If you consume more sugar, the osmotic pressure of the blood will increase, the permeability of the blood vessel walls will increase, and the kidneys will produce more urine, so hyperosmotic sugar has a diuretic effect. Therefore, before the B-ultrasound, you can drink some honey water, sugar water and other beverages, or you can drink watermelon juice, apple juice, etc. to promote urine production.

3. It’s not okay to hold your urine for too long!

It should be noted that the more you hold your urine, the better. Otherwise, it may affect the results of the B-ultrasound examination.

An overfilled bladder can compress the pelvic organs, causing them to shift and deform. Some subtle lesions can be easily concealed, such as small uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, etc. Signs of pregnancy (gestational sac, embryo) can also become flattened due to pressure and become unclear.

4. What are the signs that urine retention has stopped?

The sign of a well-filled bladder is that when the subject lies flat, the lower abdomen is slightly raised in a shallow arc shape, which sinks when pressure is applied and is tolerable.

If the lower abdomen is sunken and lower than the anterior superior iliac spines on both sides, it is insufficiently filled;

If the abdomen is bulging very high, the belly is very hard, and a little pressure is unbearable, it is overfilling.
