What is the relationship between lung cancer and tuberculosis?

What is the relationship between lung cancer and tuberculosis? Lung cancer is the most common primary lung malignant tumor. Since many people do not know much about lung cancer, there are often misunderstandings about lung cancer. Many patients with tuberculosis are worried about whether tuberculosis will develop into lung cancer. So will tuberculosis develop into lung cancer? What is the relationship between lung cancer and tuberculosis?

Will pulmonary tuberculosis develop into lung cancer: Clinical research data to date suggest that there is no direct relationship between pulmonary tuberculosis and the occurrence of lung cancer.

Tuberculosis is a respiratory infectious disease caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, while lung cancer is a tumor disease related to smoking, air pollution and low immune function.

However, pulmonary tuberculosis causes chronic damage to the lungs, affecting the normal function of the bronchial epithelium and the body's immune and antiviral status, and indirectly promoting the occurrence of lung cancer. The calcified lesions, tuberculosis scars, old cavity walls and the hyperplasia and proliferation of bronchial and alveolar epithelial cells of pulmonary tuberculosis are related to the occurrence of lung cancer.

The carcinogenic incubation period of lung cancer in humans is very long, generally taking 30 years. People who have tuberculosis in their youth may develop calcification foci in their lung cancer after being cured. Some patients may develop lung cancer again in their old age. Cases of old tuberculosis combined with lung cancer are often found in clinical practice.

If lung cancer coexists with active pulmonary tuberculosis, it is more likely to cause difficulties in lung cancer examination and diagnosis.

Generally, most tuberculosis patients are young, while most lung cancer patients are elderly. However, the trend of tuberculosis becoming more prevalent in China has been shown, and the proportion of young lung cancer patients is also increasing. When the two exist, the diagnosis of lung cancer is often neglected due to the presence of tuberculosis lesions or the finding of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum.

For patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, if they encounter the following situations, they should be highly alert to the possibility of coexistence of lung cancer:

1. Patients have irritating cough, persistent chest pain, shortness of breath, weight loss, and symptoms that are inconsistent with X-ray lesions and progressively worsen.

2. Combined with pleural effusion, the pleural effusion grows rapidly, and even the shadow expands, or new lesions appear in other parts.

3. The chest X-ray showed that the mass was round and mass-like, with a diameter greater than 24 cm. The mass was lobed, with irregular and spicate-like edges, accompanied by enlarged hilar lymph nodes and atelectasis.

4. Male patients over 40 years old with a long history of smoking.

Through the above explanation, we know what the relationship between lung cancer and tuberculosis is. I believe everyone has a certain understanding of lung cancer. If you have lung cancer, you must go to a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. I hope this article can help you or your friends. This article is for reference only.
