Occupation is also one of the causes of lung cancer

There are many factors that cause lung tumors in modern industrial production. People who have long-term exposure to these tumor-causing factors have a higher incidence of lung tumors than the general population. Occupation is also one of the causes of lung tumors. The occupation-related factors in the causes of lung tumors are as follows.

(1) Asbestos: Asbestos dust can form "asbestos bodies" in human lungs. Asbestos is one of the causes of lung cancer. Asbestos workers are 15 times more likely to develop lung cancer than the general population. Asbestos lung cancer mostly occurs in the lower lobes of both lungs, 40% of which are squamous cell tumors, 40% are undifferentiated tumors, and 20% are adenocarcinomas.

(2) Inorganic arsenic: It is reported that workers who manufacture arsenic-containing powders have a lung cancer mortality rate that is seven times higher than that of the general population. Lung cancers caused by arsenic are mostly undifferentiated tumors, followed by squamous cell tumors, and glandular tumors are rare.

(3) Chromium: The mortality rate of lung cancer among workers exposed to chromate is 5-25 times that of the general population. The exposure time to chromate-induced lung cancer is 2-47 years, with most cases being 6-20 years. Among lung cancers, 50% are undifferentiated tumors, 40% are squamous cell tumors, and 10% are glandular tumors.

(4) Nickel: The lung cancer mortality rate among nickel workers is six times that of the general population. The average duration of exposure to nickel for lung cancer is 25 years (range 1-33 years).

(5) Coal and tar: Coal tar contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzopyrene. Gas and asphalt workers are more likely to suffer from lung cancer than the general population.

(6) Dichloromethyl ether and chloromethyl methyl ether: They are strong lung tumorigenic factors and are also the cause of lung tumors.

(7) Beryllium, petroleum, mineral oil, petroleum asphalt, rubber industry, underground tin mining and tin smelting: these are lung tumor-causing factors worthy of study.

(8) Ionizing radiation: It may be an occupational tumorigenic factor. Miners have an increased incidence of lung tumors due to inhalation of radioactive substances.

Although occupational factors are one of the causes of lung cancer, they are less harmful than smoking. Smoking is not only harmful to oneself, but also to the people around oneself. According to surveys, "second-hand smoke" is the main cause of lung cancer in women.
