Researchers from the University of Chile Hospital and the Chilean Institute of Biomedical Sciences have made new discoveries in their study of the mechanisms of gastric cancer spread. Normally, the success rate of gastric malignant tumor resection surgery is 60% to 70%. In the first operation, although the malignant tumor has been completely removed from the primary organ, it is likely to reappear in other organs of these patients, such as the liver and peritoneum, one or two years later. Studies have found that cancer cells can break away from primary tumors of the digestive tract, such as gastric tumors, wander in the abdominal cavity, and then colonize and grow on the peritoneum or liver. Studies have also found that before colonization and growth, cancer cells will make some modifications to organ cells such as the peritoneum or liver to make them more receptive to cancer cell colonization. It is not yet clear what factors are involved in the transformation of cancer cells before they invade other organs. Once this problem is solved, clinical medicine can prevent early metastasis of gastric cancer cells by observing changes in other organs such as the peritoneum. |
