Is esophageal cancer hereditary?

Esophageal cancer is a malignant tumor that occurs in the esophageal mucosa. It has a clear familial clustering phenomenon. Esophageal cancer is indeed related to genetics, but its heredity is not manifested in the cancer itself, but only in the tendency to be more susceptible to tumors. In other words, the heredity of esophageal cancer is only a possible factor in its occurrence. Long-term eating habits and preferences are the main causes of its occurrence.

The occurrence of esophageal cancer is related to genetic factors, but its heredity is not manifested in the cancer itself, but only in the tendency to develop tumors. On this basis, coupled with the role of carcinogenic factors in the acquired environment, after a complex carcinogenesis process, a tumor can be produced. In other words, the heredity of esophageal cancer is only a possible factor in its occurrence. Long-term eating habits and preferences are the main causes of its occurrence. People in the same family have great similarities in eating habits, so the family clustering phenomenon is high. Men have a certain relationship with the high incidence of esophageal cancer because of their long-term smoking and drinking habits of strong alcohol, as well as hard food and poor chewing.

Some bad eating habits, such as liking spicy and hot food, plus external environmental factors, can increase the body's susceptibility to esophageal cancer. If there is a family history of esophageal cancer, those with congenital immune deficiencies are more likely to develop esophageal cancer than those in a simple hereditary family. Therefore, if there is an esophageal cancer patient in the family, the offspring may not necessarily develop esophageal cancer.
