X-ray manifestations of early esophageal cancer

X-ray manifestations of early esophageal cancer

Esophageal cancer is a malignant tumor that occurs in the esophageal mucosal epithelium. It seriously endangers people's health and life safety. Therefore, we should be vigilant and take precautions in the early stage. X-ray examination is a common examination. The X-ray signs of early esophageal cancer are as follows.

1. The folds of the esophageal mucosa are thickened, interrupted, and disordered, and pathological observation shows that they are mostly erosive in the early stage of esophageal cancer.

2. Early esophageal cancer has small and shallow filling defects on X-rays, ranging in size from 0.4 to 1.5 cm, and the pathological morphology is mostly plaque-type.

3. It may present as a localized filling defect, with the edges of the filling defect mostly being rough and irregular, and the local mucosa often accompanied by disorder. In a few cases, small niches resembling millet grains appear in the filling defect lesions. The round filling defect is like a mushroom cap or button shape, with clear edges, and the pathological morphology is papillary type.

4. In early esophageal cancer, the esophageal wall is stiff, the dilation is poor, there is barium retention, no obvious filling defects or niches are found, and the pathological morphology is mostly latent.

5. There are functional changes. When performing barium meal fluoroscopy, it is often found that the esophagus has localized poor dilation in the affected area, and the flow rate of barium in the affected area slows down, showing retention.

Tips: Highly suspicious X-ray signs of early esophageal cancer

1. Localized thickening and rupture of mucosal folds.

2. Localized esophageal wall stiffness.

3. Small localized filling defect.

4. Small niche shadow.
