What is the scrape treatment for skin cancer

The scraping therapy for skin cancer is usually used in combination with electrodesiccation to treat basal cell carcinoma and superficial squamous cell carcinoma. It mainly uses the boundary between the cancerous area of the skin and the surrounding normal skin color to scrape the cancerous area with a scraper.

When using the scraping treatment for skin cancer, you must pay attention to the size of the scraper, which should be slightly larger than the neoplasm. After routine disinfection, inject 1% procaine or lidocaine solution into the base of basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma to make the cancerous site bulge significantly. Choose a suitable scraper, generally use a 3mm to 4mm scraper to dig out the cancerous lesion, and then use a small scraper with a diameter of 1mm to 2mm and a sharp edge to scrape the surrounding area of the tumor bed and its base. The main purpose is to scrape away the residual cancer extending into the surrounding normal tissue of the base.

When scraping, apply a little downward force to prevent slipping. Sometimes, because normal dermis is relatively solid, a slight gravel-like sound can be heard during scraping, while tumors are brittle and silent. After scraping, use an electrocautery device to burn the surroundings and base of the tumor bed, then use a curette to scrape off the charred tissue and apply antibiotic ointment to the wound.

The advantage of skin cancer scraping treatment is that it can obtain a smooth and beautiful wound with only a small amount of pigmentation; the disadvantage is that there are no pathological examination results of the cutting edge, so it is impossible to know whether there is any cancer residue at the cutting edge. Therefore, this method should be used with caution in clinical practice.
